It's not though, especially if majority of the people It's supposedly offending don't feel that way. We gotta stop likening our issues with othersI'm torn on it 'cause "Redskin" is akin to "darkie" as a slang/slurs go

Shit try living in Grand Forks, ND when the University of North Dakota was doing away with the name “fighting Sioux”. I’ve already heard it all. And yes there were people saying “the Sioux were silenced, they wanted the name to stay”
I would suggest giving money to the tribes in that state from the tickets sales, merch, etcI can kinda see that though. That sounds like a similar situation with FSU and the Seminoles. I don't think all Natives have a problem with being associated with sports teams. The problem is the teams that caricature Native Americans. I mean half the cities, rivers, and other landmarks in the DMV area are named after Native Americans or use Native American words, so attaching the team to them wasn't a bad idea. It was the exectution that was problematic. They could have reached out to the Piscataway tribe or whoever else is active in the region and found something acceptable that probably would have been better than the Commanders.

But we know they not gonna do that
I would extend it to any university alsoExactly. There's plenty of shit they could have done to form a relationship with the native tribes in the area and come up with a solution that would have made everyone happy, but Snyder didn't care about any of that. That CAC just wanted to give the finger to anyone who suggested a change should have been made.
When Dan Snyder was still the owner, he sent a check to a native american charity.I would suggest giving money to the tribes in that state from the tickets sales, merch, etc

I get that, but I think the issue with the name “Fighting Sioux” is that the word Sioux means snake and was a derogatory term used by the Anishinaabe, which were long standing enemies with the Dakota/Lakota. I’m not an expert but French fur traders friendly with Anishinaabe probably adopted the term and it spread from there.I can kinda see that though. So really, the name should have been “Fighting Dakota”. There would have been a much better argument if that was the case.
Same thing with "Apache"I get that, but I think the issue with the name “Fighting Sioux” is that the word Sioux means snake and was a derogatory term used by the Anishinaabe, which were long standing enemies with the Dakota/Lakota. A Brief History of the Nde
Traveling south from Canada hundreds of years ago, the Nde (Apache) people joined the Sonoran Desert region of the Pimería Alta around 1200 AD according to most historians and linguists. The Nde people refer to themselves as Nde, Inde, Tinde, or Tinneh, which means, “The people.” The term Apache that is commonly used to refer to the Nde people actually comes from the Zuni word ápachu, which means “enemy”.

I can't tell them how to feel but in my thoughtful opinion, since native Americans have been compensated for the atrocities they suffered they have conditioned into liking the recognition that goes along with that slur as a team name. It gave them clout that they can appreciate because again, they've been compensated, unlike the black descendants of slavery
Same with the Cleveland Indians (and Atlanta Braves which isn't disrespectful at all, thats why it hasn't been changed.) They don't look at these names as disparaging or negatives because they're not oppressed at every turn like we are

What?! You mean those casino licenses don't hit the spot?!We haven't been compensated for shit, don't you believe that for even a moment. Slavery started with Natives and continued for over 100 years after the first ships carrying Africans arrived and even longer out west. This entire continent, from Alaska to the southern tip of Argentina, was our land. To have us herded onto tiny patches of some of the most inhospitable land in this country, and in many cases far from our native lands, and calling that "compensation" is really a slap in the face to all of us.

Word. I shouldve put "compensated". Whatever that "compensation" may be it seems to have pacified some to the point of embracing slursWe haven't been compensated for shit, don't you believe that for even a moment.
