Elite subscribers have frequently asked us about AJ Styles since the WWE Royal Rumble. This is what we have confirmed:
It was AJ Styles' decision to close out his WWE in-ring career at The Royal Rumble with the idea, as described to PWInsider.com, as being he closed where he started, as he debuted for the company at the 2016 Rumble event.
Styles and WWE had been in discussions for a new deal but as the Rumble loomed closer and that was not locked in, the decision was made to go with GUNTHER vs. Styles.
The two sides are still discussing Styles' future within the company, but we have not heard they have signed a new deal.
If Styles' existing contract lapses, obviously he would be free to hear offers from elsewhere, but we have not heard any rumblings that he is seeking to get back in the ring anytime in the near future.
