It’s not at all disrespectful to say there’s quite a bit of mystery surrounding the injury that Seth Rollins suffered this past weekend at Saturday Night’s Main Event.

Some of the unanswered questions focus on how minor or major the injury is, whether or not it was an angle to cover for a different injury that Rollins needs time off to take care of, and if WWE is trying to create doubt about how long Seth will be out in order to set the stage for a surprise Money in the Bank cash-in.

With that in mind, CBS Sports’ Shakiel Mahjouriasked the oracle Paul Heyman to comment on how WWE uses reporting and social media to create misdirection and ambiguity. In answering the question, Heyman describes what he sees as the evolution of the relationship between WWE and the media in today’s world where the media wants 24/7 access to WWE.
“The media wants 24/7/365 access. With that access means we also have access to the media 24/7/365. The media’s going to exploit their access to us by having more in-depth reporting of behind the scenes. We’re going to exploit that access to the media by devising storylines that are enticing to the readers, or the viewers, or the people that consume that content. Because it now becomes another platform for us to use. So it’s just the evolution of the relationship. The reporters get closer to the product, the product gets closer to the reporters.”
