Official Wrestling News Thread

As PWInsiderElite.com reported yesterday, there have been online rumors making the rounds that WWE NXT will be holding a taping at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia this summer in advance of AEW's residency in the legendary venue.

After speaking to 2300 Arena management, we can confirm there is no WWE date scheduled at the building currently.

WWE NXT did run the venue earlier this year (and could always book it down the road) but there is no date this summer.

"It was weird showing up to work happy. [Before], I was miserable showing up to work. All the tension and old school bullshit. I don't mean to knock on Vince [McMahon], but he seemed to have his certain things you have to do this way and the next day it would change. Certain rules. They like people walking on eggshells because it was the only game in town and they like the boys knowing that. With AEW being around, too, they know they can't bully because there are other places for people to go. Hunter [Triple H] has done a good job too of cleaning all that crap out. It's also a new generation where you can't get away with certain things you could before. A bunch of that BS is gone now. People go there, show up, and do their work."

I know I posted this already in here but the ether in the first few paragraphs of this story:

AEW just making it past the five year mark is an extraordinary achievement in and of itself given the monopoly WWE has had over professional wrestling this millennium. The promotion’s signature show, Dynamite, even surpassed WCW’s Monday Night Nitro in total episodes and has a new rights deal with WBD that will continue to provide a foundation for the future.

However, AEW has also been criticized for its inconsistent storylines, bloated roster, and talent decisions. After running large arenas and drawing over 1 million viewers weekly, AEW now draws in the 600k viewership range and runs ballrooms and theaters.

Liv Morgan & Raquel Rodriguez are reportedly expected to vacate the Women’s Tag Team Titles

This comes after Morgan sustained a severe shoulder dislocation this week on RAW during her match with Kairi Sane, in what is being called a freak accident

It was noted that with Morgan is expected to be sidelined for possibly as long as 3-4 months at this time, while she makes a full recovery

Corey Graves was well received during his return to Raw last night, stepping in for Pat McAfee. One WWE source noted that his Worlds Collide performance as lead announcer raised Graves' profile internally and that his dust-up in regard to being moved to NXT has been all but forgotten. "He wants to perform for the company and show what he can do," one source told PWInsiderElite.com "and he proved himself to the new regime with Worlds Collide."

Jeremy Borash was overseeing AAA Triplemania Regia over the weekend.

As you might imagine, there's a lot of sympathy for Liv Morgan today. No word yet on the severity of her injury but those we've spoken to are hopeful it won't be the worst case scenario.

If another 4+ hour block of live AEW wrestling in June is too damn long for you to handle, dear reader, then you’re in for some good news. It turns out that Collision is indeed moving off June 28, but it will air on Thursday night (June 26) instead of following Dynamite that Wednesday.

This comes from Wrestling Observer Radio’s Dave Meltzer, who says Collision is being taped that Wednesday (June 25) along with Dynamite, but it will air the next night as a separate two hour show. The kicker is that NASCAR is the primary reason why the show is being moved.

“It’s gonna be two hours on Wednesday, and then [Collision is] 8 to 10 on Thursday. Because the Saturday when it would normally air, there’s a NASCAR race on TNT.”
Meltzer explains that AEW usually tries to “avoid Saturdays if WWE has a show” because of the lower ratings results. But it turns out that Collision was going to move out of its normal time slot on June 28 no matter what.

“WWE has Night of Champions, which would be actually an afternoon, or even a morning show I guess on the west coast, but afternoon show in most of the country. But historically, those are not good nights, even if they have an afternoon show, it hurts the AEW ratings. Because once people have seen their three hours of wrestling on a pay-per-view, they’re not really that apt to want to see another two hours. So that’s kind of like the situation.
But it doesn’t matter, because they couldn’t run Saturday night because of the NASCAR commitments. TNT has a lot of sports on Saturday. I guess they could have run it right after NASCAR, as they’ve done with basketball.”

But them reduced venues have suited them greatly. Something they should've did long along. Save the larger venues for the bigger special Dynamite/Collision shows.

AEW's issues is very much fixable. I've always said...and will continue saying that they need a credible person who's actually been in the pro-wrestling business as head of creative. That way TK can step aside and focus on the executive side of the company.

BUT AEW has a good product. They just need someone else....*cough* Paul Heyman *cough*...behind that creative chair to steer the ship.
