A product of his time. Put AI in today’s game and he’d be more mindful of his shooting and attempts. But between the years 96-06 it was about isolation and volume shooting. Wade came in during the iso era and then transitioned to the current style of play once the league moved away from iso and volume shooting.
 
Wade better but gotdamn I hate when niggas do the whole efficiency thing with those late 90/early 00’s perimeter players. And just dismiss context.

Teams lived and died with their best player, there was way less switching. So generally if you was the best scorer you had the best defender on you pretty much the whole game. If you went 9-22 back then nobody batted an eye if you won the game.

Then another thing is common sense sometimes leaves the thought process.

If player A slashes more than player b, shoots less threes, and more closer mid range shots + they’re bigger and stronger. They should be more efficient if they’re close in talent.

Like I said Wade better but the A.I disrespect gets annoying.

AI was great and context definitely matters, numbers don't tell the whole story.

He didn't have a soul on his team to carry the scoring load.

Aaron McKie? Nigga only averaged 12 points when he won 6th man.

Larry Hughes? Eric Snow? Theo Ratliff? A young Iggy? A young korver? FOH

So much is placed on carrying a team but he did that. He couldn't have possibly been expected to win with any of those rosters which is why he demanded a trade and rightfully so.

Pretty sure he lead the league in minutes when he was in Philly because they just didn't have enough so naturally his fg% would go down because he was taking all the shots.

When Iverson got moved to Denver his fg% went up because he was playing on a much better team. He actually played some of the best basketball of his career with the Nuggets but that gets overlooked.

Melo was his best teammate by far and we know how much shit he gets for his career.

And not to mention AI was a much better passer than he gets credit for.

Glad you wrote this because this supports both arguments

doesn’t make sense how his sixers days get praised so much more than his Denver days when he played better and smarter ball then
