As soon as I saw the clip a couple of days ago, I knew Special Ed was going to catch some flack for it. Truth be told, a lot of East Coast rappers felt that way back then.

He's not wrong. The problem with NWA isn't that they made Gangsta Rap. As was pointed out, they weren't the first to do it, but the way they did it commercialized and glorified a lot of the negativity. Like if you listened to Ice T's music, the street shit didn't sound like fun and games. With NWA it kinda did at times.

Exactly. Which is why I push on people that say HipHop is destructive. Not every song that talks about the drug or violent life glorifies it. A lot of gangsta/drug/mafioso rap makes it clear that whatever positives come from that life are accompanied by some pretty bad negatives.

My favorite NWA song is Express Yourself. That video for it too was powerful imagery as a shorty. They were putting paws on the slave master

HipHop/Rap music had less profanity and vulgarity before NWA debuted and more Profanity and vulgarity after they debuted. I’m not putting the blame on NWA , but you can tell it’s a night and day difference between those 2 time periods
