NaS major issue after Illmatic was having a good executive producer and weak radio singles

If you were to the honestly compare the 2, Jay and NaS ratios of spitting over trash production is about equal

Jay just excels at catchy club bangers and radio singles which have people over look the trash in between

About when did people start caring so much about nas beats ??? For me his beats selection took a dip on Nastradamus and even on there he had bangers. Then Stillmatic, Godson and lost tapes. Nothing wrong with the production on those. Next dip was either hiphop is dead or Streets Disciple . I think people wanted him to have the same sound we were getting from Rocafella and nas wasn't gonna do it

Um literally the only knock on Nas career has been his choice of beats at times

IMO Nas never has had bad beats. Im in agreement with the executive producer angle, a lot Nas albums had songs that shouldn’t have made the fuckin cut at all (Summer on Smash, Braveheart Party, etc) or wasn’t executed properly (Hip-Hop is Dead, I would have never reflipped that beat again and it was a weak single).

Like “Letter to the King” should’ve been on “Untitled” not fuckin “Make the World Go Round” and “Hero” was a trash single.
You're proving the point he does pick bad beats at times lol. You think Nas would have picked that Hi-Tek beat (Letter to the King)?

Nah, that’s on the Executive Producer. Them songs should’ve been switched between “Untitled” and “LAX”. “Letter to the King” clearly fits the theme of “Untitled” better. Somebody dropped the ball. Nas should’ve little bro’ed Game and just took that shit.

And how didn’t “The Art of It” and “Beautiful Life” didn’t make Life is Good? And yeah @a.mann is right about the singles. Cause “The Don” wasn’t it.

Everyone artist "picks bad beats" tho. Some artist just have better executive producers that realize those song should not make the final cut of the album

An artist can go in the studio with a concept and knockout 20-25 songs with one or more producers/beatmakers

it's the e.p.'s job to narrow that down, if the goal is to make a (traditional) one disc album
"this should stay, this can go on the b-side, this can go on soundtrack and this can go to hell, cuz it's straight trash"

An EP is like a coach or an editor of a novel

NaS has had horrible e.p.'s cuz they let a lot of weak songs pass when they never should have seen the light of day
of an case were he executive produced (edit) his own work, which he just isn't good at
