Nas & DJ Premier - Define My Name

I'm just happy its happening. Glad to see Nas so active and inspired after decades in the game, not everybody can do that

It's been over 4 months since this track dropped. No updates, no further announcements, not even a video for the song.
As the year is quickly wrapping up, I'm starting to believe this album may not happen. Especially with both of these dudes on separate tours in different parts of the world for months to come.

They tested the waters to see if there was any real interest. And outside of the initial excitement of nostalgia, this song came & went (like I said it would)
This falls on Premier's tired outdated repetitive production he provided

NaS may have lost interest and just wasn't inspired, if beats like THIS is what Preemo is giving him.

And niggaz was shittin on Hitboy in the other thread

If anything Hit kinda revived NaS musical career in middle age ... And probably introduced him to a younger audience

In my opinion Premier hasn't done anything magnificent for Nas since 2nd Childhood which was released 23 years ago and nothing worthy of a pleasurable listening experience in those years following

I think the album will happen. Like late fall. The song is fine.

Wouldn't surprise me if the album has a ton of rapper features and collabos

The problem was timing. The whole world was fixated on the Kdot vs Drake beef in Apri and since. No other rap songs popped off around that time either.

Can't even use that as an excuse, because by contrast Common and Pete Rock have 3 vids and 3 songs, they announced their collab album close to the same time

Again...it's the production
Pete's production just sounds fresher, more exciting, layered, much better mixing, with "modern" melodies and chord progressions but still keeps that 90's vibe and energy.

He didn't promote much during the 6 album run. And just dropped outta nowhere. The lp will come. But the pressure is up. Common and pete not playing .

lol that's probably cuz Premo hasn't produced 1 song for a Nas album since Stillmatic

Damn, no love for PRhyme?

I know him and Royce dropped two albums with a couple of prominent features...

But I don't really rate them that highly

Now compare the production on those albums to a song like 'Boom' released in the 90s ..

Preme fell off sadly ...

Hitboy's production during the Nas run vs the PRhyme series? Who you got?

HIT all day every day

Those six albums each have classic songs and bars on em ... I'm not even exaggerating

NaS form on those albums at (about) 50 years of age was mind-blowing

I wasn't even really that huge a fan of Hit as a producer until those albums dropped
