OUT NOW Maximum Football (In Early Access)

Ok

Played this some tonight

Gonna read the discord before I give my initial impressions

Ok

Off the bat, this doesn't feel like it plays that much different from the fall fest demo from a month or so ago. I know they updated some things but I didn't feel them while playing

The good:
The game is a lot slower in pace than Madden. Tackles for the most part feel really good. There have been a couple of wonky animations here and there but nothing crazy.

Catching feels satisfying. I've seen quite a few catching animations each game. Feels more dynamic vs static.

Passing feels ok.

The not so good:
No ability to shift the OL for protection

User controlling the DL feels weird. It's like you can't break away from the interaction once the animation has begun

The play calling menu leaves a lot to be desired

No play action, no screens, no actual playbook options when selecting your team

No pump fake

Summary

In is current state, it's playable but it needs a lot more time in the oven before coming out

Played this for a while yesterday

Some more thoughts

-Not so good

I never feel like I can control any non defensive lineman. The ball travels so fast, you don't have time to switch then react as a DB

Speaking of reacting, when I do take control of a defender in the open field, the CPU always seems to manage to evade my attempts to tackle causing them to have huge gains running or yac.

You can't jump as a DL to bat a ball down.

Jumping to swat as a DB is always a crap shoot.

I haven't seen a single PI penalty called. Holding, illegal block, etc ... The only penalties are delay of game

I wish they remove the feature to celebrate after every score. I'm not trying to griddy after every score.

Something with the AI seems to get triggered in the second half when the CPU is down lol. I had so many games where they were scoring on the first play of the drive in the second half. I guess to make the game competitive lol.

No difficulty setting
No sliders
No manual instant replay
Can't challenge at all
Too many fumbles
You can't hurdle as a runner

Accelerated clock needs work. You don't have enough time to to pre snap adjustments on most plays.

They need to adapt the mechanic to press a button and move the direction of the player you want to switch to. I've selected the wrong player too many times under the current way

Too many broken tackles especially on kickoffs. They need new gang tackle animations cause if they make one player miss, that's usually a take to the house cause when you dive at them, it feels like you hit a shield that can't penetrate the tackling animation from your teammate

-Good

Dynasty is off to a great start

I with the menu was cleaner to navigate. Right now it's an eye sore and a chore.

Recruiting menu needs a ton of work. Too many button presses to get to things is an issue.

Can't flip pass plays

I figured out how to change the playbook. Unless I missed it, you can't in an exhibition but you can in dynasty. My issue is that it's literally the same plays across the playbooks, just the formations change which I guess isn't terrible but there isn't any real variety outside of that.

Throwing over the shoulder passes is so satisfying but the passing is inconsistent. Trying to find out if it's tied to a stat. For instance for the QB, there's short, medium and long distance accuracy.

The cpu AI seems to get better when facing better quality opponents. For instance, all QBs seem to manually slide in the open field to avoid getting tackled.

Time management still needs work

The dynasty management stuff is awesome. Ticket prices, stadium upgrades, etc...

I think pretty much every not so good can be resolved with tuning.

Even with some glaring flaws, this game is still playable in it's current state.

People just have to stop trying to compare it to a game that's been in production for over 30 years. If this is going to be a fluid game or whatever instead of a yearly release and they will continue to patch accordingly, I can see this being a viable alternative to Madden. Not a competitor until it makes some HUGE improvements but a viable alternative, especially with the free to play model

This game definitely has a really strong foundation to build upon

First patch notes

I like what I read

Ok

Just finished my first season in my dynasty.

Whew there's a lot to unpack

I'm hesitant to mention a lot of stuff cause I'm not sure what they will be able to realistically address but again, the foundation is there.

I was in their discord giving my feedback when this was announced

A few of the things I mentioned to them were fixed
