Been listening to this album since it came out. You really can't understand Lupe on first listen and the point he's trying to make. This is why I love music and hip hop in general. Certain music comes right on time for me and shit I go through.
Last year it was Krit and his album & interviews about alcohol. I felt like he was speaking directly to me.
With this album, I been looking for music to stick with me and uplift me. This album does just that. A lot of real shit. Especially Alan Forever.
Like I've only listened to the Slave Ship Interlude a handful of times.
What's going on in society today and thinking of what my ancestors went through. Man it's tough. I get angry listening to that but I just applaud the perseverance of black folk. All the shit we done been through and we still here fighting and come together when we need to.
I know people may call this nerd rap or whatever and have jokes but it's really worth a couple of listens. I never really banged Lupe's music in my car but if I'm just cruising I'll listen but I mainly listen while I'm at work in thought and at home when I'm chilling.
It's a long album with a lot of wordplay to take in though. Production is top notch. Manilla, Down, and the best track on the album is King Nas are my favorites.
I ain't all that good with reviews and all that but I'm rating this at least 4 out of 5.
