KRS One Says LL Cool J Would Not Survive In A Verzuz Battle

Well you said it yourself, you're a Hip Hop head (Hip Hop is spelled with capital H) and well versed in 80s Hip Hop.

But there's a lot of people that are your age that are casual listeners that know Jay Z, DMX, 50 Cent, and Lil Wayne but they've never dug beneath the surface and listened to Criminal Minded, Paid In Full, It Takes A Nation of Millions, etc.

Also like you said, having listened to KRS One/BDP in the context of when it was released, watching Yo! MTV Raps when they used to play the My Philosophy video every day, the You Must Learn video every day, the Self Destruction video every day. Back when KRS appeared on Arsenio Hall several times, when KRS was on the cover of the Source a handful of times. If you don't remember those days and came of age in the 2000s, you might think of KRS the same way my generation thinks of Grandmaster Caz and Kool Moe Dee; Old school MCs that were basically washed up by the time I really got into music.
Lmao the capital H was mad random but anyways.

Nah the average hip hop head knows that Kurtis blow, Caz, Kool Moe Dee etc were washed during 87-88 when Krs, Rakim, NWA, P.E., slick rick came through.

You can hear the shift in flow and subject matter, style etc.

My first album I ever got was paid in full by rakim back in 97 when I was about 6.

Started digging in the crates shortly after and found all these rappers from the 80s and worked my way up through 90s. Also helped that my sisters were 10 years older and put me on.

By the time 50 cent came through I mightve been 11-12 and I hated 50 with a passion. Didn't feel like it was real hip hop and it was watered down.

I was already a veteran at that point. It boogles my mind when people my age or younger say they got into rap when they were 13, like tf you been listening to that whole time? Spice Girls?

The average person gets into music and what they like at like 6-7, luckily for me it was Hip Hop.

Lemme see if I can find a pic, had about 40 cassettes and 20 CD's that we got from thrift shops, bootleggers and stuff, All just old-school rap.

This was about 96-97.

@Bed$tuy man say it with your chest

Speak on it

1. KRS dissed the Juice Crew
2. He dissed Mr Magic
3. He dissed Marley Marl
4. He dissed MC Shan
5. He said Manhattan keeps on making it
6. He said Brooklyn keeps on taking it
7. He said Bronx keeps creating it
8. He said Queens keeps on faking it
9. He said Roxanne Shante is only good for steady fucking
10. That 12" got shipped to Europe
11. That 12" got shipped to Japan
12. That record got shipped to Australia
13. The problem was he had never fucked her (and the Masons didn't like that)

I can only think of a few groups that are similar to New Edition

Full Force
Troop
Today
Tony Tone Toni
New Kids On The block

And none of those groups would last 5 songs with New Edition

It would have to be an outside the box matchup like New Edition vs Destiny's Child.

This was your secret revelation? Lol

We been known that

Also Krs Was prolly the first clout chaser

Dude was living in a homeless shelter and was jealous of Mc shan and the Juice crew.

He figured he could start up some fake beef so that Shan would respond and make him famous.

He knows damn well Shan never said Hip hop started out in the bridge.
