No clue. I don't know all the ins and outs of the industry, but who picked who was signed to Bad Boy? Cash Money? Rocafella? Quality Control? Ruff Ryders? Diplomats? Young Money? Death Row? No Limit? The list goes on.

And it's 2025. Seems artist are creating their own buzz on the internet now. Once the people (the public) decide they like them they get bigger, and labels notice them. But that's after the people have proven they like their music. They seem to respond to the demand.

I don't think anyone gets screened per se

There was one black dude there that has been in at least 2 other videos. I'm glad he wasn't able to speak. I think jubilee is more into sensationalism now vs people who actually are there to create impactful debate and discourse

So the artists that established labels decide to sign is irrelevant? There has to be some ownership beyond "Well UMG could have said no", right?

I feel like we're in denial if we act like it isn't largely in response to what people want to hear.

Ok. Were there more popular groups/labels with a positive message down there that they were passing on? Or did a business, trying to sell a product, go down there and do business with the companies making the most money?

So they're not forcing the sound. They're listening to what the people have decided they like and want to spend money on, and investing in it.

And is this just being mad no matter what? Record companies are wrong for helping this negative music spread in popularity. OK, so were you cheering on the police when they were arresting rappers for performing obscene music (and store owners for selling their music) to stop it from spreading?

I'm not even sure of the point you are trying to make

It's one thing for the Big Tymers in the late 90sc early 00s to be popular in just the Gulf Coast region just off local/regional radio (which they incur the cost of getting played on the radio which could potentially lead to their downfall if they are spending money which they can't recoup

But that aside, some white person hears about them with a major label and decides to make them an offer to increase exposure

This is the "issue" a lot of black conservatives try to point out

If the labels didn't promote the shit, niggas would've been pivoted to something else they actually could profit from

So with this opinion we needed a white savior to protect us from our own decision making? The people in the Gulf Coast region could pick any music they wanted, and decided they liked Cash Money's music. And even after it's promoted, the rest of the world can listen to any music they want instead. But we needed a white executive to come in to correct us, and tell the world what music/interests they needed to be into instead?

And my point was if you think helping the spread of the music was wrong, then you should think the police arresting the artists and distributors for making/selling the music was a good thing.
