OPINION Is This The Most Overrated Rap Star Ever?

View attachment 1566926

Been out for 30 years and 95% of his catalog isn’t even better than The Massacre by 50 cent

not super lyrical, made up fake words like fo shizzle my nizzle to make rhyming words easier, hasn’t made a critically good album in like 18 years despite putting out like 12 albums in that time frame

What you think?
Snoop Dogg gets zero play over here. Even when shit like Drop It Like Its Hot was out I couldn't stand that bullshit and found it corny as fuck compared to everything else dropping at that time. He got the classics with Dre but everything post 98 was trash bag music.

I haven’t taken Snoop serious as a rapper since probably back when he was still with No Limit. He a legend regardless but if someone told me back in 2004 that he had ghostwriters I wouldn’t have doubted it.

He’s not the most overrated rapper tho, niggas ain’t ready for that conversation.

Drop It Like Its Hot
I Wanna Rock
Sexual Seduction
Beautiful
Got Beef-Might not be his song

He's popular for his stardom and celebrity not for spitting bars or being an elite emcee.

Overrated? Sure u can make that case for damn near anyone.

Most overrated? Absolutely not

Is snoop dogg the rapper with the biggest gap between stardom and his actual music catalog/talent outside of a hybrid like will smith?

In my opinion no. I think his catalogue and impact is being heavily downplayed in here.

With that said this thread is basically punishing him for transcending just being a rapper and staying relevant long after the peak of his music career.

The answer is 2Pac.

I admittedly overrate him as well as most people, and it ain’t shit wrong with it. It has nothing to do with if he’s a terrible rapper cuz he wasn’t. Everything to do with the fact that his death amplified his legacy to the maximum. That and while he’s never had a bad album, you put the albums he dropped when he was alive against the other best albums in those years it’s hard to say he was “the GOAT” like a lot of people tho. His output posthumously also, for the most part, hurts his legacy. The quality or quantity argument is right there. Funny enough 2Pac with that kind of output would thrive in the streaming era. That being said his influence has been far and wide the last almost 30 years since he passed for better or worse. I think a lot of it is human nature that most people feel the need to put him on the pedestal and there’s not a damn thing wrong with it.
