OPINION Is Marvel's Black Panther movie really a "special moment" for Black America??

the BEST thing from this would be smaller, fresh, innovative and independent movies from the director and actors getting the same attention.

like coogler does awesome....and while he managed the fuck outta that budget.....like boseman said, the next move needs to be small...

maybe a pet project..something he was working on himself.

Dude is from oakland...so i mean we all know where he could go....i mean i saw fruitvale station and was blown away.....

so i know he can tell honest and true stories...

but wil niggaz go back to saying "we tired of seeing those images"

like take black panther and fruitvale station.. what movie was more powerful????

That's hard to answer. Fruitvale Station was powerful, but Black Panther is just as powerful for not being another Fruitvale Station. It's why I don't really have any interest in seeing a Black Wallstreet movie. I've read papers about it and watched documentaries about it, but I seen Rosewood. Going to see Rosewood 2: Blacker and Richer isn't my idea of entertaining and ultimately that's what I go to the movies for. That said if they make that movie, I still hope it does well.

this is what im talking about brah

this is corny and not even funny

yet, you posting it to say what? people make corny and dumb memes?

When i see this, i see Michael B Jordan as Wallace and how he has continued to get better at his craft to the point where he is taking on great roles in movies.

I see the parallel between the two characters.

Wallace was a forgotten youth with no home and had to survive in the harshest environment.

And he ultimately made tragic decisions that led to his demise.

They both had the opportunity to change their ways.... But they were who they were

are you even trying at this point brah?

So you don't see the comparison between the two characters?

And my head in the sand??

This is the epitome of taking shit too serious to see the humor in it.

For the people downplaying the impact of Black Panther, what will you tell your kid when they ask about Africa because they watched Black Panther? You just going to dismiss them because the inspiration for the question came from a comic book movie?

I took this as an opportunity to teach my kids some of the subtleties of black history in America. How Black Panther pushed back against those things we were taught to be ashamed of (natural hair, black physical features, African influence in clothing, etc.). Also to speak on how we've been cut off from our culture unlike other cultures of the world, and how the Killmonger narrative speaks to that.

They've known but there's always an opportunity to reinforce learning.

I have no issue with this. Sometimes you have to put the medicine in the ice cream, but this shouldn't have to be done with adults.

Having knowledge starts with the parents, so they don't have to depend on a movie.

bruh, i would love to go to a festival downtown and see some shit like that....find some local vendors..give them some support.. sot down with the family, chill and watch the dancers....in the proper setting....

but the second you realize this shit over a disney movie.....

We used to have something where I lived called Afrin-Fest, where they would do this. It was epic.

I think I'm More disappointed in cats allowing themselves to continued to get trolled, If I hear/read one mo ridiculous analogy...Shit Type corny

LOL...What Blacks Are U around that believes statuses are changing after this movie ?

LOL No one I personally know, but read on twitter. You swear Black Panther is running in an election against Jesus Christ, and was going to set our people free.

IDK Man like that trolling shit is some Talentless shit....Let people celebrate how they want. Nothing bothers Me like that ....Just too much Corny shit in here just to keep a thread moving...like this

I actually haven't even seen the movie yet.

And I asked because someone made the statement on the radio this morning.

how bout we not compare shit... or say this is the greatest movie ever or the worst thing to happen to black people..

shit aint gotta be absolute... muhfuckas can just enjoy the movie for what it is...a dope ass movie with a majority black cast, crew and director that did historic numbers.

Surely we can agree on that at least
