OPINION Is Marvel's Black Panther movie really a "special moment" for Black America??

Yup. You definitely just jumped in without understanding the context of my argument and if you did understand and this is still your argument then you’re either trolling or is stupid. Ain’t no in between.

I didn't jump into anything. I asked you a question, and our back and forth is a result of that, not of any prior discussion you're having with someone else. Your last post seemed pretty clear and self contained. I'm not sure what context could possibly make it more insightful.

Your question was based from a back and forth I was having with Focal Point. You then jumped in and asked me what you asked me.

My question was directed to specifically to something you said. I don't really care about the convo you were having with Focal Point, and I didn't need any insight into that discussion to ask it. You response also didn't need any background from that other convo to fully address what I asked. It's all good though.

You still didn't even answer why you believe the impetus for someone striving to do something better matters. You made it clear you think being inspired by a movie is stupid, and that's fine. But that doesn't really explain why it's a bad thing.

You sure because you just said niggas think wakanda a real country? Either you think niggas dumb or not
bruh, look at the dude who just posted.. he saying my kids won't know about wakanda/africa unless it's from this movie...

like i said earlier... how we gonna say it's black history every day and this movie the only reminder of africa???

the "danger" of this shit is that in the face of it niggaz act like it's the only good thing in the world......

i used the water example because just because it's water, niggaz don't seem to care how it's presented, or by whom.....

yes a story is being told with african influences....

but it's still a fictional story which is the origin of some comic book characters....

but we're celebrating it like truth....like it's parching our thirst for the first time ever

like more honest and truthful information never existed....

we can't act like we so thirsty that we'll accept any ole thing as the genuine article....

black panther is a good movie. great visuals. strong message.

but this cannot be more important than honest truthful depictions of our history as a people, just cuz it "looks better" the more importance we place on this movie the more we're essentially saying we prefer a pretty lie over the ugly truth.....

there's a danger in that that's being ignored based off a false pretense.....we have much to celebrate and to be proud of....we are not a dying people who need this movie to save us...

black excellence, and black girl magic were both things before this movie came out....

like we're trying to place more importance on this movie than the things about ourselves that we should be just as proud of that proceed it.....

If I'm dying of thirst I'm taking the toilet water, figuring out how to get stronger, and put myself in a place where I don't need to drink from the toilet again.

Yo ass would lay there and die because of where the water came from, leaving your family fatherless.
there lies the damage in negative perception... you feel as thought you dying of thirst,

and i'm looking at you like nigga it's water everywhere, the drought is a perception..... u ain't gotta drink outta no damn toilet.....

Yeah you’re trolling. I’m not debating a point I never made nor will you dictate the narrative and have me argue with you either. And how I can tell you’re being disingenuous. Peep the bold. When did I say that? If you are quoting me in the middle of me having a conversation with someone else then let’s talk about that or don’t try to engage me. You’re like the 3rd poster that has tried this with me already.

For the people downplaying the impact of Black Panther, what will you tell your kid when they ask about Africa because they watched Black Panther? You just going to dismiss them because the inspiration for the question came from a comic book movie?

I took this as an opportunity to teach my kids some of the subtleties of black history in America. How Black Panther pushed back against those things we were taught to be ashamed of (natural hair, black physical features, African influence in clothing, etc.). Also to speak on how we've been cut off from our culture unlike other cultures of the world, and how the Killmonger narrative speaks to that.

They've known but there's always an opportunity to reinforce learning.

if you're an active parent the education of africa shouldn't have to come from a movie.... like what's going on that your kid doesn't' become interested in afircan culture until he sees a disney movie. i had my son playing afircan drums at age 2...exposure should not be limited to what the media has control over

and as a parent you should never teach your children to be ashamed of their hair of physical features. the should never feel cut off or a sense of belonging on anyone but their loving family....

we have the resources and information to be the fount to our children.....these arguments might've held weight in a different time.. but in the internet age where information is literally at everyone's fingertips... we can't sit here and assign some nobel responsibility for the corporations to educate our children, or be the spark that we ourselves can just as easily provide

Some of you niggas discuss shit like children. When I made my post about how a movie inspiring a person shouldn't matter. You posted this:

This sounds stupid. Try rationalizing to a Jew that they wanted to learn more about their Jewish heritage because they saw Inglorious Basterds. It looks dumb as fuck and that’s something anyone should be keeping to themselves. This speaks more about the person and who raised them than anything.

I took that to mean that you believed the idea that a movie could inspire a genuine desire to seek truth being stupid. Now, if I misunderstood you, that's cool. The shit happens, especially on the internet. But claiming that I'm trolling or trying to push a pointless argument is juvenile. And if you can only hold one line of conversation at a time and think its out of line of someone to try and engage you in parallel to another discussion you're having, then just say that shit from the start. Stop acting like people are coming at you with some kind of devious intent.

Curious question...

Sooooo if someone is inspired by a song to explore their history... thats toilet water?
If someone is inspired by a painting or a sculpture to explore their history.. thats toilet water?
A comic book?
A movie?
The internet rather than a hardcover book?

How you gonna side-eye folks for finding inspiration where YOU personally didn't?

And for those that spoke about other black movies being of historical narratives, that's precisely why they're always so negative. Even when we overcome it's from such a bad place (slavery, racism, etc.). I'm personally getting tired of being told over and over that we had it so bad. I get it, we were slaves that went through horrible atrocities. But now we're strong! Let's see some strength!

Who the fuck wants to keep reliving shit like that over and over again?!

I hope Black Panther sparks movies about African and Egyptian empires showing us from a place of strength and pride the entire movie!
Bruh, the movie was about an angry black militant.

an angry black militant who damn near everyone agreed with.

Killmonger was going hard as any nigga niggaing it up in every violent black movie ever...

he was harder than o-dog, doughboy, og bobby johnson, all them hard ass niggaz....he has been considered the hardest nigga in the MCU

people quoting his line of dying in the ocean instead of living in bondage like he was dmx in belly......

that's the same hard core ass carried by 6 instead of judged by 12 talk niggaz rap about.....

so how yal tired of the same old shit when the hardest nigga in the movie is everybody favorite character?

Hold on my nigga, wasn't you the one that said that African Americans should be happy with who they are and shouldn't be so desperate for a connection to Africa. Now you claiming that every black parent should be raising their children up with intimate knowledge of Africa. Am I getting you mixed up with someone else?

Black Panthers costume was dope and I heard the cgi was good. Angela Bassett is fine as hell. What say you?

naw not at all..

if it's that person's personal journey that's cool....

but the level of celebration going into it might come off as a bit dramatic if a person celebrated a song to this level.....even a really good song.....even if its their favorite song.....there's a line between showing appreciation and losing your damn mind....and it's not even a fine line....shit bigger than a motherfucker....
