I didn't jump into anything. I asked you a question, and our back and forth is a result of that, not of any prior discussion you're having with someone else. Your last post seemed pretty clear and self contained. I'm not sure what context could possibly make it more insightful.

My question was directed to specifically to something you said. I don't really care about the convo you were having with Focal Point, and I didn't need any insight into that discussion to ask it. You response also didn't need any background from that other convo to fully address what I asked. It's all good though.

You still didn't even answer why you believe the impetus for someone striving to do something better matters. You made it clear you think being inspired by a movie is stupid, and that's fine. But that doesn't really explain why it's a bad thing.

the "danger" of this shit is that in the face of it niggaz act like it's the only good thing in the world......

yes a story is being told with african influences....

but it's still a fictional story which is the origin of some comic book characters....

but we're celebrating it like truth....like it's parching our thirst for the first time ever

like more honest and truthful information never existed....

we can't act like we so thirsty that we'll accept any ole thing as the genuine article....

black panther is a good movie. great visuals. strong message.

but this cannot be more important than honest truthful depictions of our history as a people, just cuz it "looks better" the more importance we place on this movie the more we're essentially saying we prefer a pretty lie over the ugly truth.....

there's a danger in that that's being ignored based off a false pretense.....we have much to celebrate and to be proud of....we are not a dying people who need this movie to save us...

black excellence, and black girl magic were both things before this movie came out....

like we're trying to place more importance on this movie than the things about ourselves that we should be just as proud of that proceed it.....

if you're an active parent the education of africa shouldn't have to come from a movie.... like what's going on that your kid doesn't' become interested in afircan culture until he sees a disney movie. i had my son playing afircan drums at age 2...exposure should not be limited to what the media has control over

and as a parent you should never teach your children to be ashamed of their hair of physical features. the should never feel cut off or a sense of belonging on anyone but their loving family....

we have the resources and information to be the fount to our children.....these arguments might've held weight in a different time.. but in the internet age where information is literally at everyone's fingertips... we can't sit here and assign some nobel responsibility for the corporations to educate our children, or be the spark that we ourselves can just as easily provide

if it's that person's personal journey that's cool....

but the level of celebration going into it might come off as a bit dramatic if a person celebrated a song to this level.....even a really good song.....even if its their favorite song.....there's a line between showing appreciation and losing your damn mind....and it's not even a fine line....shit bigger than a motherfucker....
