OPINION Is Marvel's Black Panther movie really a "special moment" for Black America??

why are you the way you are
Bruh listen to the interview

This dude straight days to truly connect you gotta know where your blood line goes down to the tribe

Dude ain't just name a region or country... Dude was specific down to a people...

And he clearly points out that same identity crisis I pointed out.

Did he or did he not say most people including himself understand the villain more than the hero.

The jealousy and insecurity of an American who doesn't have the tradition of authentic Africans..

The longing to belong.

From the jump I've been saying people want to disregard everything about what it means to be a black Americans to align themselves with people they don't really know shit about...

But what you expect when folk don't even know themselves. Theres so much culture, tradition, customs, personality that we as blacks have built for ourselves here in America, but we consider ourselves inferior to Africans.... And that's really the heart of our insecurity

Black Americans consider themselves inferior to genuine Africans.

That's the driving force of the main villain in the movie and the actor playing the hero said he relates more to that than the African king.

At least he admitted it... The rest of y'all in denial

Y'all don't realize y'all look forward to this movie because you have no pride in who you are as a people now.

Look at what people saying. " We tired of seeing the images we see"

That tells me Niggaz only focusing on the negative. They refuse to see the beauty in themselves.

Niggaz are very self hating. I bet all y'all wish y'all were really African.

so thats the only thing you took outta that clip?

i actually watched the entire interview

the part i was specifically mentioning was about how you kept talking about how all this is doing is making Marvel richer

he said one of the main guys/producer at marvel is black

another shot caller is a woman, im not sure if she's black and her name escapes me atm to google her, but you were on this tirade about how this film wont impact anything for black people b/c all its doing is making Disney money

. The African has to understand that many African Americans long for that connection back to Africa and will do anything just to feel a sense of belonging,
1. they don't understand. they mock us for it
2. we wouldn't "long for that connection" if we just had some fucking pride in who we were, and embraced ourselves as a people
3. "will do anything" reeks of desperation further strengthen my point

why does it have to be either or?

maybe im just not fully understanding your gripe

are you saying Boseman isnt proud of his African American identity so you take issue with him wanting to know where his people actually originated from?

so thats the only thing you took outta that clip?

bruh where in this entire thread did i once say "all this movie does is make marvel richer" that might have been one of my points, but that was not my only point, and that's not the only thing i'm taking from this, and more importantly, my main argument was the identity crisis of black people and the infatuation we have with african culture.. that was the main thing i was talking about......

and the main thing you avoid in every argument.....you latch onto a secondary point like the studio making money, when dude actually laughed at the notion of the studio doing shit for the black community....

yea he said himself, and others involved with the movie will always give back, but dude actually laughed at the thought of marvel/disney doing shit at all

yo stop doing that, stop mixing my words...

it's insulting

I have no issues with people wanting to know where their blood line originates.

I just think it speaks to the identity crisis we suffer when you have that need to belong though....

Boseman might have traced his lineage down, but he still said South Carolina 100% made him the man he is today.

He never put down other black people, or shitted on Black culture, or anything of the such....

Yea he learned some things, but he still maintained that where he was from was South Carolina.....

ain't shit wrong with learning other cultures, but don't lose your personality in it...you still you.....be proud of who you are....

1st, you have stated that point several times, so dont try to downplay it like it was just once and i latched onto that

2nd, what other studio has just given money to any community? He said that it is a business, and they need to turn a profit, which in turn, will give other opportunities for films to be made.

So he said he himself gives back, but thats not good enough for you?? Marvel has to give back as well b/c they made a movie about a black superhero?

3rdly, i still dont understand why this bothers you...so i am only allowed to wear my african print if i know its origin? What if, just what if, someone sees this movie and it sparks a fire in them for them to want to learn more about their african ancestry?

yo stop doing that, stop mixing my words...

i asked you a question. I wasnt mixing your words. I am legit confused about your position on this issue

and you have done your fair share of nixing people's posts in here too

again, your last statement is the very definition of either or Du

why cant he be 100% south carolina AND still learn about his heritage while also embracing that? Why does he have to just be proud to be from South Carolina? You act as if he said he dont identify as being from SC.

I see what you're saying but I somewhat disagree with the notion that if an African American wants to embrace African culture, which we all have an origin from, must hate themselves.

I look at it like this...

We took lemons and made lemonade. But those lemons were the Worst of the worst lemons figuratively speaking. And while there are accomplishments we can be proud of, what it all boils down to is a fabricated culture created from the effects of slavery. So I will never knock anyone who wants to connect to what we once were before our original culture wad taken from us by force.

did you quote the wrong post?

Remember when we all got mad at mainstream America for taking an interest in rap music when 8 Mile came out? When they were particiating in rap cyphers in homes. lunchrooms, street corners, and stages across the nation JUST to mock the culture of Hip Hop?

Me neither.
