I get the difference between producer and beat maker but in hip hop the lines are blurred. To be a top 5 hip hop producer you gotta be both.
Agreed, Diddy ain't showed to be both

What's Diddy signature beat/song. Not Bad Boy and its inhouse producers but Diddy

And again, because of his business practices, everything gets a side eye

EP'ing albums tho, nigga easily top 3

Easily.

If we go off just influence Diddy has a case for top 3 most influential person in hip hop.

If we just look at it from 93 till now him being top 3 most influential isnt even a debate.

But top 5 producer? I just cant put him there.

What producer said Diddy stole credit for their beat?

95% is still on the payroll

And again, Diddy has never been known for making solo beats, it's always been HitMen. DDot, Mario Winans, Ryan Leslie, Stevie J etc. Had you did Diddy (Hitmen) like you did Pharrell (Neptunes) than I dont think this argument takes place but you didn't

On his on own Diddy isn't top 5 producer.

If Diddy top 5, then so is DJ KHALED

Yea cuz Khaled changed the sound of multiple genres. I hate yall niggas

Look there's a reason why there's a Mo Town sound and not a Berry Gordy sound

Puff no doubt top 5 Executive Producers, that ain't to be discredited, but when you say producer 9/10 you talking about someone who makes a beat or has a hand in making beats

Two different jobs and functions

I don't think Puffy actually made any of these beats, but I believe he pressed a few buttons and turned a few knobs to make the difference between a dope song and a genre defining classic.

I think Puffy did what Sylvia Robinson did for Sugarhill Records. She gets credited for producing The Message.

I suppose a producer that makes hits trumps an underground producer like DJ Premier.

I'm voting yes.

Yo @Goldie when your logic starts to sync up 5 Grand.............. "riight"

Jay's best produced album in the past decade plus was produced by Puff, niggas just saying anything at this point

U mean like the entire 90s?
No one went to Puff for a damn beat

Went to him for a record? Sure. They knew the Hitmen and Bad Boy was gonna get them a hit record

Damn near every member of HM had a signature sound and you who was the director of a record except.....Puff

They needed his ""brand"" . The fact he was popular they wanted their project associated with that popularity and mainstream commercial appear
