I feel you, I'm just saying you'd be surprised what they consider rural. I don't consider where I bought out in the country, I'm within a few minutes of everything.
The lil town i grew up in was considered rural and it's in the Little Rock city limits by the Airport.
 
We looked for a year.. We went through NACA and I'm licensed so I represented us. Nothing wrong with buying a preowned house..Whether you buy preowned or build new, you still limited by your affordability....keep that in mind. Also think about your goals...are you looking for a forever home or a starter house?
