Actually, I was watching an LL Cool J interview. It may have been Drink Champs. He said he got a check in the mail from somebody that used one line of his in a song. He said he was surprised to get the check because it was only one line.
But I think the label was being super-careful. He also mentioned that they were making a video of the song so maybe that's why they cleared 1 line. If it was an album cut they probably wouldn't have cleared it. I wish I could remember where the interview was from.
If he’s not breaking bread...I always saw it as paying homage. Most of the shyt came from popular songs, so most people knew it wasnt his shyt.
So niggaz claiming Jay Z is Serpentor?!?!
He took Mase style, Young Chris flow, Biggie’s bars, Big L’s lines, summin from Camp Lo apparently and Omillio Sparks chorus and became a GOAT and one of tha most successful hip-hop artist ever...
Did I get everything??

That's the thing too... most rappers can't even get a publishing check on their own, much less a publishing check for use of their songs. Biting is not cool, but neither is stifling an artist for money off something they created. Jay did a good job of minimizing that by paying the estates of the artist in question. My brother Canei Finch gets some type of money just for playing 8 bars of piano at the end of American Gangster. Christopher Wallace is credited in a lot of those Jay songs with BIG's lyrics in them. I don't know who that is, but I'm pretty sure he's somewhere enjoying his royalty money.Actually, I was watching an LL Cool J interview. It may have been Drink Champs.
