Who was the main character and miss me with that ensemble cast cop out. Nothing happens in that show without McNulty, he was the center of the wire.
You really trying to box me in by taking away the actual answer. It's an ensemble. McNulty is responsible for getting the wire up and running but that world existed rather the cops took interest or not.

Bubs gonna be out there regardless, BnB out there rain sleet or shine, crooked politicians, the school system, dock workers, newspaper industry, Omar all of these threads would be waiting to be explored rather McNulty puts the battery pack in the higher ups or not.

McNulty is a white face that acts as a tour guide to Baltimore. But that's a Trojan horse, once we get the players, we get to live in each of these worlds. Prop Joe has a whole life that we get to dive into without ever intersecting with McNulty for example.

Barksdale investigation was McNulty. Container girls lead to the docks investigation was McNulty. Investigating D'Angelo's death sets up the unit to go at the Barksdale crew again was McNulty. Season 5 was Jimmy being crooked to bring down Marlo. Everything revolved around Jimmy and his need to bring these people down.

Only season 4 was McNulty not the main character

Black folks didn't get shown in a positive light, only drug dealers and murderers, but we got police chiefs, mayor's, community organizers, aldermans, news editors, state senators, etc. that are all black.

Okay, man.
Clay davis was a crook. Bunk was a drunk and adulturer. Now you just saying anything, both shows showed black people negatively

Beadie finds the girls on the shipyard. The wire is already up and running in season 3, and they're already looking at Barksdales outfit before DAngelo even is killed, McNulty is oblivious to the rise of Marlo. Season 5 is just as much about Kima supplanting the others as good police then it is about McNulty and Freeman breaking bad.

He's the inciting figure that puts season 1 in motion but to say things revolved around him is a misread on how many things happen outside of his purview. He's so lazer focused on Stringer that pretty much any other story misses him entirely or only indirectly involves him.

McNulty being petty lead the unit to get involved with the container girls and got himself back in the fold and off the boat

They wasn't investigating the Barksdale crew in season 3 anymore cause Avon was locked up and they moved on. Jimmy got them back on it with D'Angelo's death and following Stringer around. Nobody even knew Avon got released

Very easy, The Wire. The Sopranos did a lot of things wrong, including their depictions of bladk people and women.

So now we aren't allowed to be showed with depth?

This ain't a black and white show, all characters pretty exclusively live in the grey area.

Even still Bunk is good police, who works to bring wrongdoers to justice and who is disgusted by his white partners willingness to blur the lines. Freeman is the best police on the entire unit, with genius level intellect for the job with none of the ego or pretense, and he's a damn fine mentor to the other officers to boot. Cedric Daniels is a man of principle who supports his estranged wife even as their marriage is falling apart, she a career minded woman is also making waves in the political sphere of Baltimore, which is not coincidentally ran by black people.

Bubs and Cutty, two stories of redemption and overcoming their stations in life to become citizens and positive members of society, you can add Namon to that list as well thanks to his surrogate father Bunny Colvin.

I ain't close to done either. But I mean...

I just said the wire showed black people in a negative light too, is that not a fact?

Yeah McNulty being petty got them stuck with the murders. They were on Barksdale at the start of season 3 but were gonna move on since the wire had turned cold. McNulty went into business for himself as per usual. Cops were completely irrelevant to the street war that was happening and would pretty much stay that way until season 5.

What is so great about the Sopranos?

Is it for people who hate their mother? Cause I'm not getting it.

It’s the first of its kind and introduced a blueprint that many other shows followed. It pretty much birthed anti hero’s. The multi layered storylines and Easter eggs, etc.

The fact that people still don’t understand the ending shows how layered the show is. The ending is only the 2nd or 3rd layer of the onion. It might take a couple watches to get it.

The fact that people don't get the ending is an indictment of the public school system.
