That was something involved in the original script. Maximus travelling to a more modern time and being some sort of agent or mercenary I think it said. Dunno if time travel is still in the movie, but I heard they scrapped it and are focusing on another Roman storyline. I think following the character from the first movie that was a little kid and joaqins nephew in the movie.

Time travel (although that seems to be either a rumor, scrapped), baboons, rhinos, sharks.... I don't know what's going on with this script, but it sounding like wild movie if true!
