Drama in Bristol: Is Rachel Nichols racist?

I’m not a big Stephen Jackson fan for a different reason. Has nothing to do with what he said about this situation
I'm interested in your reason and does this situation make you just pile on or are you indifferent about it

I understand that he and George Floyd were good friends but it seemed like at times that he was exploiting his death and for some reason he felt that he spoke for all black people when it came to all things George Floyd. I didn’t like that.

As for this situation, I think ESPN is more at fault that Rachel (I know what reaction that will get in here and on this site lol). It just looks too suspicious with how many black women are let go at an alarming rate with that company. It doesn’t make sense to me

Understood

I actually agree with your first remark

I'm not gonna say I disagree with your second remark but I will say two things can be true at the same time. ESPN on some fuck shit and she was too for feeling some sorta way or rather the way she chose to express her concern

It's not a reach or even wrong to day espn was more at fault for basically creating a situation where they're pitted against each other but Rachel Nichols still should be held responsible for her comments specific to Maria Taylor. She injected the angle of race while trying to pull the woman card seemingly forgetting that Maria Taylor is also a woman. She didnt see her as a woman when she made those comments she just saw her as Black which is why she made the specific comments she made

The pure focus on not lookin down is hilarious

That's Taylor Rooks.

She was in the bubble last year with the players.

Haven't seen much of her since then.

Not really a fan of hers, but none of this would've happened if they kept Sage Steele on the NBA Countdown show.

They had the perfect coon in place to play the role and not rock the boat.

From a corporate/company perspective, they messed up a good thing.

Now they've got to deal with a problem that......ironically.....they created themselves when they started propping up Taylor and got her thinking she's bigger than she really is.

Race aside, there's nothing she's done to justify paying her $8 million/yr.

Or even $5 million/yr for that matter.

I was stunned to hear she turned down $5 million a year. She’s part of the ABC Saturday night college football game which is a big deal and of course has hosted nba countdown at times for the last 2 years. Does that mean she should get “Stephen A Smith” money? Absolutely not.

I agree with the ESPN is more at fault statement of your post.

From the audio that was posted and the way the network seems to have issues with females (black specifically) in general this shit looks bad on ESPN.

it definitely seems like from the outside looking in that the higher ups have no issue putting the females against one another for certain jobs at the network. Why even negotiate for certain privileges if your employer is just going to try and navigate around what was contractually agreed upon?

I think what a lot of folks are missing with this whole situation is they tried to give Maria the job (sideline and post game interview) that had already been contractually agreed upon with Nichols. Why, were they trying to do that? To save money, to give Maria the only job they see she is fit to do, were they trying to change the optics of the show after the fact, doesn’t anybody find that strange??

if the network truly valued Maria why didn’t they work with her to create a show that is her own or actually give her a job that was available to everyone and not just something that the “women” do. Let’s be real almost all the sideline reporters are female and it’s only 1 female who has a show on ESPN and that’s Rachael. She actually has a show, she isn’t just the moderator or host. It’s her show, where she comes up with the opening monologue, helps with the questions that’s going to be asked, and assist with the long running skits. Chiney has a show with Golic Jr. but it’s on ESPN NEWS & 2. Their show is actually pretty good too, but I’m sure most of you didn’t know that.

It’s only two females on all those networks outside of ESPN W that has shows (maybe I’m wrong and if I am please point others out to me) to my knowledge.

I definitely think Nichols shouldn’t have brought up the shit about race but I definitely think ESPN was trying to put these two women against each other with the move they pulled and I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if her race did have a small factor in them choosing her to help with optics, especially if Nichols took Lisa Salters spot in the broadcast and the only other female doing the sideline reporting during the finals is Doris. That’s gonna have really crazy optics if both sideline reporters are white and 2/3rds of the game commentators are also white. Lol.
