OUT NOW Drake - ICEMAN

Added to Calendar: 05-15-26

I fuck w/ Whisper my name, all of the "Make Them..." tracks and Plot Twist is hard. There's a few joints on the other 2 albums too. Maid of Honour is not for me, but I can see the Tik Tokers having fun w/ it. Overall it was pretty much what I expected w/ really nothing to sway my opinion of everything he's released post NWTS or Views.

I agree people hate listening to Drake is stupid. But you contradicting yourself in this. If they're not where they were when they 1st started then it's natural to expect growth in the music. And that expectation is really only put on artists people have higher hopes for. It's a compliment really. Drake was in his mid 20s when he popped. He's pushing 40. And with his proven song writing ability it's natural for people to expect him to not still sound like he's 25 in his music

This expectation doesn't come from his core fans. Thats the issue.

If you can't hear the growth in his pen and sound from so far gone to now you're just never going to hear it.

It's not that deep. Drake triggers people, though.

There are people saying that he's not allowed to speak on anything related to the beef. Like, wtf?

This is what I was talking about when I said that a lot of the reaction to him feels forced and phony.

I don't think that Drake sounds 25 in his music. He's 39, and he sounds 39. I'm 37, and I feel like I know exactly what he's saying when he raps. I don't think he's pandering. I think people discuss Drake like he's a 60-year-old rock star who is still making rebellious grunge music.

Drake is 39. What exacty ware peole looking for in his music? Keep in mind that he's been on top for the better part of 15 years, and he's 39. What do they want to hear in his raps?

He gave more introspection on his life in his 20s than now. You can't tell me the same person who wrote "Look What You've Done" in his 20s truly thinks making songs with Sexy Red at 39 is what the average person his age is living. The fake mob boss "i gotta get all my enemies" shit comes off as corny. He's not a tough guy and cos playing as one is fraud as hell. When people say they want growth they mean they want to hear that same honesty he came in with about his life now. Hip hop has grown as it's fans grew up too.

This is a Drake album thread, so I'm not going to flood it with other artists,

For Kendrick and Cole specifically, I don't listen to anything from Mr. Morale, and I play maybe 3 songs from GNX. I still listen to the Offseason, and I probably only still listen to maybe 5-6 songs from The Fall Off. Kendrick's last few albums don't have much replay value for me. Cole is just the last one.

Drake's music has more replay value, and I think replay value correlates to growth as an artist. Sometimes a rapper can grow, but it just might not hit the same. Growth isn't always positive.

He still makes vulnerable songs like that, though.

Also, he is not where he was in life when he made Look What You've Done. Drake is very much a rapper who raps what he lives. You're listening to the raps of a nigga who has been the top guy. I wouldn't expect Jay-Z to sound like Volume 1, 2, or 3 Jay in 2026. Not as a 50-year-old married Billionaire with kids.

The problem with people discussing Drake is that they try to punish him for shit that's sort of unreasonable. He raps what he lives, and he's done it all. Niggas want him to make struggle raps, well, he's not struggling. Even so, he still inserts vulnerable and personal topics in his music. His mom was all over the Scorpion album. In this album, he said his dad has cancer. He always raps about his relationships with his friends and women.

I get what you're saying, but I think that it's incorrect to say that Drake hasn't grown in his music. Making a song with Sexy Red doesn't invalidate the growth in his music.
