Do Non African Americans Have the Right to Speak on Black Culture?

Anybody has the right to speak on whatever they feel like. The problem is when we black people give undeserved attention and credence to ignorant shit. That is IMO where we fuck up as a people.

Check the dumb shit said if need be but after that leave it alone no need to keep debating stupidity
gang gang nigga

This is inspired from some a bullshit narrative I've seen on LSA lately...that non American born or 1st and 2nd generation blacks don't have a right to speak on the black experience because their culture and black Americans with families from here have a different experience.

This is also inspired by a few stories in the news...like Nicki saying that dumb shit about Harriet Tubman. People lit her up saying because she came from an immigrant family and reps a culture other than America (Trini), that she stepped out of line for speaking on a black American legend.

Its like this people who aint raised in the culture and say something negative about shit we like is always out of bounds. I cant judge Jamaicans on what they do

I think its when outsiders say negative shit and run with it. And i know Africans gotta hear dumb shit from us in school an shit but folks really will believe every negative stereotype about Black Americans and roll with it. At least online.

That shit just ain't online. I've been a few places out of the country and most of the shit I've seen on TV of black americans was some bullshit. It made us look like fools and perpetuated everything negative about us.

Just like how TV portrays damn near all african countries to us americans. They only show us starving kids with flies all in their faces, people having to walk miles just for a bucket of clean water and only white people(saviors) throwing them food off the back of trucks.

They all know what the hell they are doing.

This.

Anybody can speak on anything, just make sure your argument ain't bullshit. Cuz if it is, it will be torn apart.

I get the sentiment being presented, and I've had some personal interesting debates with non american born blacks have a very different perspective regarding blacks in America.... But in that same breath I've had personal debates with black Americans who were born here and still have ridiculous opinions based in ignorance.

Being ignorant about a certain topic doesn't take away your right to speak on it. You just might get shitted on.

And being born a certain place doesn't make you ignorant by default, not does it take away your argument by default. Just know that if your argument is weak, lacks insight, is overly ignorant, or overly influenced by stereotypical offensive negative characteristics.... You might get shitted on.

I remember having an argument with an African architect who had a horrible opinion about black americans. He felt we were all lazy and placed no emphasis on family or education. And he built that opinion from a place of ignorance.

The flaw in his argument was that he was arguing with a person who was the exception of everything he was claiming about black americans.

They don't work. I was at my second job.

They don't go to read or go to school. I literally was reading a book that night.

They don't value family. I am married with two children, my only children.

His argument didn't have much to stand on, especially considering I would not concede on me being against the grain.

I still feel in underperforming a lot of areas, so I am far from the standard. I'm normal, not exceptional. If I was exceptional I wouldn't be in this bar working a second job.

So I mean I get where the argument comes from, but I'm not one of those folk who look at folk an say they can't speak on something.

I'll just wait till they do and tell them why they wrong if they talking out they ass...

Like I do here for the most part

I don't think it matters on the culture or race. I rather people just learn how to articulate themselves and only speak what they know and not what they think.
To piggy back off this post.. There are people that are black that have no business sharing their thought/influence people being black doesnt give you free reign to speak on shit simply just cuz.. Some people have a very small world view and they generalize .. then they "teach" and spread the bulshit and it becomes a fuck nigga loop because those that are soaking the shit up don't know any better.

Another thing is their are certain things that people embrace as "for the culture" when its really not thats an issue too

what like lavar ball and his JBA league?
@Beta its been a minute

I feel like its loosely true in some cases

I went to high school with some kids from some african country, not sure where

blackest kids at the school and they didnt fuck with us at all......for all they knew, they were white...they lived in their neighborhoods and hung out with them

they talked different, they dressed different, they acted different.....no basketball, football, etc....it was soccer and lacrosse and tennis

you got some "different" people out here but thats far from black american to me....tho they may still experience racism on the surface of things, they're just not mentally consumed with what the people who have been here for generations are....they dont go to sleep and wake up thinking about the same shit....a lot of them act just as clueless and entitled as other races around us

there was a guy that started working at my job like last year, and I was sort of relieved to see another black man get on.....

dude was french african or some shit and spoke 11 languages and played ping pong....jumped right in with the developer crew (white)

yeah im shallow and "uncultured" but me and dude aint the same lol

i cant say that those people can really have an honest and informed opinion about being black in america....they can say what they want tho *shrugs*
