Six plus years since I made this post. And the way that I deal with stress is unchanged. I don't do Zumba. I go to the gym every weekend, sometimes during the week. Before my brother, who's a corporal in the National Guard, deployed, we would work out every weekend. So now I have that discipline and I credit him for that. Even with me being on the spectrum, me being autistic, I still try to handle my business the best possible way. We're all real with each other. we try to keep stress at a minimum. So how do I do it now? From experience....you need more than one coping mechanism to deal with stress. It's a real good idea to have one solely for the health benefits, such as hitting the gym, walking, or even Zumba.
Knowing which coping mechanism to use is ideal because not all stress is dealt with the same way.
I go to the gym. I do long-distance bike rides. If you go to the fitness thread on here, you can see some of my times. I'm going to try to break 30 miles soon here. But because of that intensity and my now incorporation of walking long distances, last weekend I walked 15 miles. Maybe I have lost some type of definition, but I know my legs are very strong. I talk to myself on my walks. I really am proactive with how I plan my stuff by my walks. I make sure there's some resources nearby if I need to step into a store, a quick trip, buy a drink. But I make sure I have a plan because the stress is so low that I can really plan stuff out. And that's important for somebody on the spectrum. I love planning stuff. And now I just need to really focus on planning my life and how productive I want to be, need to be
