Did black people lose our culture? Did we ever have one?

It’s not a form of flattery when you don’t acknowledge where you got it from. It’s stealing because you rename it.
 
As a little girl we stayed with pigtails in our head or many plaits with knockers and shit. White people get ahold of it and act like it’s something brand new and call it rope twist. Like gtfoh fam a lee. Now it’s the latest trend.

Alicia keys rocked the fuck outta cornrows, had all of us with designs and shit in our head. Kim K pop up with them shits and it’s ALL THE CRAZE.

also culture is not always completely unique..people of different origins have some similar culture practices that are manifested differently... dancing.. food.. and get togethers are human things fam.. thats not unique to black people

what are we doing to preserve this "culture" when we allow everyone in and teach them the ins and outs..exclude us...they profit and make it corny then come back to steal the next thing.

we are the originators....yet we are not the protectors. but if its ours then why are we allowing it to be watered down. in that theory its apart of everyones culture who can profit.

we can be imitated and thats cool. but we allow others to take our "culture" from us while they are not allowing us in theirs.

Slavery didn’t take away Africans culture. It took Africans away from where their culture was prominent. But their culture was still within them. And over the years the culture that they had morphed into something different. But who they are and we’re remained.

You can’t take something from a man or woman that they have within them. Not if they have inner strength and belief in what they are.

For one you forget what country we in. Every culture in the US takes from another one and commercialized some part of it. Taco Bell and Chipolte for example. Popeyes and KFC. Now true black people need to benefit more from what we create. But American capitalism is a huge part of our culture so if we can make a quick buck we gonna flip it and create something new. When white foljs copy us they be like 5 to 7 years late

It seems unstable because we measure culture by how many white people like it. Think about it Egypt is the most talked about when it comes to African history and that only because white folks felt it was intriguing and cool. It took us some time to realize thats not the only story

You from Charelston SC right? Geechee folks are literally the most African out of African Americans. Thats why i dont understand niggas who say we aint got no connection to Africa or that we dont have culture.

I think people who speak like that are speaking on prominence. Like dudes that say hip hop is dead, classic commercial hip hop is on its last legs. But the actual, spitting, word play, concepts and structured hip hop ain’t dead. It’s not prominent
