Welcome To aBlackWeb

We're all just speculating bruh.

Unless we've seen the entire season, none of us can be 100% sure of what we're speculating about.

Otherwise, it wouldn't be speculation.

However, my speculation is based on what I've seen on the show thus far........what makes sense.......and what doesn't make sense.

Take the scene where Darius and Van go to see Tupac's funeral........or whatever it was.

They basically held a public party for euthanasia.........possibly even murder.

What makes more sense?

That this happened within the context of someone's dream...........or that it was something real that they just happened to stumble upon?

Same thing with the billionaire living in a massive, luxurious condo/duplex hidden in a cornerstore in some European hood.

They just walk in there...........go in the back.........and it's a totally different world.

Is that more likely to happen in somebody's dream.............or is it more realistic for a place like that to actually exist?

This really shouldn't be that hard to figure out.............at all.
That last part about going in the back and it’s a different world is real. There’s a restaurant I’ve been to in NY called Beauty & Essex that’s just that. Look it up.

@Inori you laughing man but idk I’m like that with a lot of hit shows especially if somebody tries to put me on to it

All I can suggest is give it three episodes and see if you fuck with it or not.

Try not to go in with any expectations or hype from other folks. If you fuck with it..coo.. If it aint for you it aint for you

Is she really?

How do you know for sure that she is?

Let's not act like it's beyond the realm of possibility that all of this could be going on in Earn's head.

They alluded to as much at the end of the season premiere when Earn woke up after all that craziness with the white foster family.

I think they even showed one of those white foster parents by the pool in the hotel when Earn was strolling through there.

Wouldn't be surprised at all if, once the season's over, we're gonna find out that a lot of what happened was Earn dreaming.

you really living up to your screen name bruh you seeing shit thats not there at all

it’s a dope ass bar/club in Puerto Rico called La factoria that is like that also.

the outside looks all small and worn down but when you go inside it’s a big spot that has different types of music and cocktails for each area. Super dope spot.

There s one here that’s a barbershop by days then at night u walk in the barbershop then walk through a hidden door then bam one of the most exclusive nightclubs in the city

My thoughts regarding the first three episodes

This is a series more about “theme” than linear story arcs. The theme of this season was to create a “black fairy tale” and each of the three episodes of this season have stuck to that main theme.

Episode 1- A young black boy literally beats the odds and is able to liberate himself from a white supremacist system of oppression and mortal danger that many black children NEVER escape from. Episode 1 is actually the most blatant exploration of this theme as they literally took a story that was “ripped from the headlines” and flipped a story of black tragedy into black triumph.

Episode 2- Paper Boi starts the episode in prison. Usually a black man caught up in the legal system would be a hellish experience, but instead for Alfred it is pleasant. Complete with a prison guard who acts as a waiter, a 4 course gourmet meal, and comfortable lodgings. The place is so nice that Alfred chooses to STAY and have lunch rather than get out as fast as he can (compare this episode with Alfred and Earn’s experience in season 1 episode 2: Streets On Lock) Moreover, Darius and Van are completely safe around a group of cultish white people (think Jonestown, Heaven’s Gate, etc.) who revere Tupac on his death bed (Tupac in reality was labeled a thug, a menace, and dangerous by the white media) Finally, the “fairy tale ending” of the episode is Alfred refusing to perform (i.e. tap dance) on a stage in front of white people in black face. He gets to keep the advance, and Earn is able to escape because the white guy beats up the wrong guy in blackface.

Episode 3- Earn, Darius, and Alfred are able to attend an upscale party. A white man (Will) befriends Earn and is massively rich. He’s bleeding money on this black kid whose obviously hustling him. The black kid is able to use the white guy for money (the reverse is often what happens) Alfred is able to win a game of poker even though the white man in charge (Fernando) was CLEARLY trying to throw him off his game. First using Ghosts (which typically black people are wary of discussing. How many times have we heard from our parents and/or elders that you don’t mess around with the “spirit world”) then using a weird, implied Homosexual experience with said Ghost (Black males are stereotypically made out to be the most Homophobic) and then capping it off with talk of God & The Devil (Black people are typically very religious) none of this works, and Alfred wins. Fernando leaves, leaving Alfred without his winnings. Instead of leaving empty handed, Alfred is able to get revenge by destroying Fernando’s favorite possession ( A tree, which historically been a source of great violence and trauma for black people due to America’s vile history of lynchings)
Meanwhile Darius has a mildly racist but ultimately harmless encounter with an Asian woman, meets a white guy named “Socks” who christens himself Darius’s “savior” and gets his buddies to enact vengeance on the woman. Parallel to this Van assaults several white people by pushing them into a pool with no blowback or retaliation for her actions. The night ends with all four of them escaping consequences and Alfred even getting the hat that was stolen from him earlier returned.

If THAT isn’t a “Fairy tale” ending for four young black people amongst a white majority I don’t know what is.

Even though the overall theme of tonight's episode was pretty basic (How black culture is subtly filtered into the White community in a way that ultimately manifests in appreciation without understanding) the execution was INCREDIBLE. I can see why this would be one of the episodes that Donald Glover would want to personally helm.

That final shot really brought it home. White kids desperately want to be black because their parents allow them to be RAISED within black culture, all the way back to slavery and the mammy days. Bash wanted to go to the funeral because he had an appreciation for Sylvia’s culture and wanted to UNDERSTAND it. If his parents hadn’t have taken him it would have led to his appreciation turning into APPROPRIATION. The casting of Chet Hanks (which in itself was BRILLIANT meta commentary) drove that point home.

It also again, ties into the "black fairytale" concept that is this season's connective tissue. Young children like Bash, being positively influenced by elements of black culture, will grow up without the ingrained racism, fear, and loathing OF that culture will in turn lead to better relations between white and black. The "older" generation is paying reparations and the "younger" generation are living without the effects of that "curse" effecting them.

Brilliant brilliant episode. I thought that “The Big Payback” was flawless but THIS one is on another level

These filler episodes if we can even still call them that are collectively hitting better than the regular episodes this season.

I said what I said.

Look You're Scaring The White People
People dont realize how close and how much their children learn from their Nannies
I dont think i will ever see another show quite like Atlanta again
