After first watch ..

And I'll watch again.... This was a good slow down. I like how they set up Louis side quest. The lawyer meeting wasn't as funny as I thought it would be from the trailers.... But it was still fun to watch Louis troll Lestat.

Christine is a real one. Gabriella is going to make people cringe, but I think she's essential to the self discovery, and I'm eager to see her and Louis interact with each other.

There was a David Talbot mention..... But it sounded like he was killed.... Which leads me to believe Daniel being the David replacement is accurate.

They really cram a lot into these episodes. I don't know if I feel like they're rushed or not. They are moving along pretty fast without dwelling on much. The wolf hunt was very significant in the books.....I feel like they almost glossed past it....I can't tell if it felt like a big deal if you didn't read..... But it was a very big deal in his life. The episode definitely illustrated that, but I don't feel like it really spent enough time really driving it home.

The locals made him a coat with the wolf pelt.... He was wearing it in season 2 when he was in Paris with Nicki... So maybe they circle back to the wolf kill..... But that was a big deal that could easily be overlooked if you didn't know to pay attention to it.

But yeah, saying agent Talbot, like he was already dead was kinda wild

Upon 2nd watch...
This time with my headphones on my phone so I didn't wake up the house...

This episode was much better... Much much better. They have really owned this adaptation. I pray most people are following and enjoying, because this is top tier writing. The band reaction was way more realistic than it needed to be. The book glossed over this, the movie QOTD gave it a little bit of attention.... But this show, man.... They really got into the minds of every band member and made them such more in depth characters in one scene. It was great....

Christine a fucking G

Louis can't help but to be a hustler.... That hotel the fight is in was his.... Will Mr. Pitt.... That was a real nice way to contain that entire incident. Dumb luck if it being Louis hotel though.... It would make more sense if Lestat did know before hand... But he looked genuinely shocked that Louis was Mr Pitt...

That new song was definitely about Louis, and that performance was perfect.

Loved the flashbacks... If anyone missed it, they explained it after the show. Essentially after Gabriella told Lestat she wouldn't survive the winter... He went to Paris and became a vampire. When she was about to die, she went to him in Paris, not knowing he was a vampire. He couldn't bare to see her suffer and die, made her one.
. Once she became one, she says, let's go back home and kill everybody. And he was like cool.

That's a sick ass vampire origin. They didn't change much. Leaving the bodies like they for the kids was crazy.

Daniel setting up Louis was a great scene too...I see why they used that scene in the teaser... But it was smooth and gave parallels of when Armand set Louis up..Also Lestat narration of this scene was 🤌🏿

The writing is really good in this show.... They not missing.

Another good episode

Solid 8/10

I think you said a while back that in the books Lestat was originally coming to New Orleans to bury his dad or something when he met Louis. This episode seems to be a departure from that... Is that a minor change or something a bit more substantial?

Minor.

I like this version better. It makes more sense.

See in interview, he brought his father with him after they lost their home in the French revolution. He was old and blind, and they had him sitting in Louis plantation

In TVL Lestat said he always had money, he never went to Louis cuz he had money and a plantation.....

And then he goes on to make Gabriella... They never went back home, she just ended up going off on her own....

AMC gave her a better story imo

People gotta remember, interview didn't have the history and lore in the story. It was meant as a stand alone... The lore was created years later with TVL

The TV show adaptation told interview with the lore and history of the characters already baked in ... So it's always going to be a different story.

Lestat said in this episode he lived for over 50,000 days before ever meeting Louis.

In the original book, his mortal father was still alive. Meaning he would just have been turned.

Those two don't line up.... That's why I say I prefer the show. In the vampire Lestat, way too much happens for his mortal father to still be alive when he met Louis....and it was never really retconned, it was just something that readers of the books accept because of the time between the books. She never would have had his father alive in interview if she knew she was going to write TVL. That's why TVL was always supposed to ridicule the interview and portray Louis as the unreliable narrator... AMC leaned into they and told a more cohesive story....

They have Gabriella kill her husband years before Lestat ever meets Louis. And I feel like that makes the most sense for this universe.

So yeah, good change imo. Fixes a lotta continuity errors between books 1 & 2

I wasn't sure how I felt about it before but I don't like them making Daniel be David so I'm hoping that's not true

Sam saying "it's toxic but everything is toxic in vampire world" with regards to Lestat and Gabriella was funny

So it seems like they're going to do the history in bits and parts flashbacks. I guess that's ok but they're rushing too much for my liking

Yeah, I feel like on a rewatch the pacing isn't really off, were just used to the way Anne writes.... She is very illustrative... And honestly long winded.... BUT she skips over things she doesn't find interesting.

On my rewatch... The scene with the band on the bus, was the stand out scene of the episode. They didn't dive deep into book elements, but they dove deeper into the elements they created. Like the decision to spend this much time on the band. The humans directly associated to this.
.
It's kinda like the decision to make Louis family a major part of season 1

To give Madeline more story season 2

They are giving the mortals way more already this season, and it's going very well imo. Most of this episode is trying help them accept the crazy world they are in. Lestat told then he's keeping them safe.

Him, Daniel, Gabriella, and eventually Louis I guess... Will make sure this band is protected..mm and of course they have to prove it...

TV shows these days have to have multiple stories going at the same time.

Expanding the band, and making Bruce/ The Fang Gang a legit protagonist. Those are careful choices they treated very fairly with the way they presented the first two episodes. These are directions they want to go in, and they are spending time on that.
. They are spending time on the relationship between Louis and Lestat.... The stuff from the books is in flashbacks... And it feels rushed.

Basically because more attention is being paid to the stories they created.

It's because of the shorter season and I guess however they wrote this story for tv is a bit more compact even though they could have just fleshed it out. I don't know how many seasons they want to do this

Like they clearly were given a time structure and just ended up fitting things in and some things didn't make it. So it's like they can show this but then sacrifice that

Watching again...I know, it's a problem...

But Lestat did not know Thomas Pitt was Louis. He did not know the fight was in Louis hotel. At the meeting he said he didn't know it was his shity hotel.

It was dumb luck..... But....

It's a parallel to last season when Louis and Claudia stumbled into Lestats theater. Lestat is beefing in Louis hotel. And as Christine said foh with paying off witnesses, this not my first rodeo... Y'all wipe minds .. Stop playing with me.

Shit was great

So, I can say this without spoiling anything...

In the books, David essentially continues to make vampire biographies into books like the initial interview Daniel conducted.

The fact that Daniel is doing this biography imo is the biggest sign Daniel is replacing David. It's not a big deal... Just a direction flip.

This is also not spoiling the show cuz it's clear they are not doing this. In the books Daniel is turned a vampire by Armand, and goes insane...

Marius takes him, and Daniel just plays with model train sets at Marius house.... That's like it for him.. He's completely irrelevant after that.

David however... Became very prominent during the entire TVL & QOTD storyline....he was much older like Daniel is in the TV show. Him and Lestat become besties, much like the hilarious back and forth between Daniel and Lestat from the show.

And..... David is the only person to help Lestat fight Raglan James in the 3rd book.

From this episode, you literally hear Raglan say no one cares about David Talbot when Louis threatenes that in all his Dubai killings, Agent Talbot was amongst them....

Which is huge, because it almost confirms we don't get the character David Talbot in this show...

But the role he plays is still there. Daniel says he's on retainer for the Talamasca
. Which means as a vampire, Daniel is playing the role David did once he became a vampire while still working for the Talamasca.

Daniel at this point, why wouldn't he do an autobiography for Armand.... One for Marius, one for Pandora when me meets her, who better than AMC Daniel to record what happens when Lestat invokes Memnoch.... That book starts with David witnessing a conversation between Jesus and the Devil at a cafe....

In this universe.... That season makes sense that Daniel is the one you oversee that conversation... And that's only book 5

Besides being completely different characters yes IMO. Like they have completely different roles

Not sure how they do the body thief story if they combine the characters
easy.... Lestat reaches out to Daniel to help him instead of David. And Daniel helps.....
they can switch Daniel into the new body, and have Lestat turn him again.....

It would have the same impact

But the relationships are just completely different. Not to mention David and Daniel are intellectually different lol
