HBCU (Historical Black College University) Classics started around the early 1900s. There are many football classics based all over the US. It’s usually more popular with southern HBCUs. One in specific, Turkey Day Classic, is a time when black college football teams, sometimes rivalry teams, play on Thanksgiving Day/Labor Day (or the weekend of the holiday). A lot of celebration happens amongst the black community such as parades, college band battles, tailgating, parties, and/or late night clubbing.
Turkey Day Classic is the longest running HBCU Classic in the US. Tuskegee, Clark Atlanta, Fayetteville State, Stillman, Miles, Alabama State Unv, and Mississippi Valley State are amongst the featured.
