ABW Album Review Board (Nas - NASIR)

It's worth checking out, but the 7-song formula brought this shit down. That gimmick worked for Push; not Nas.

3.5

"I would like to say that first. Second of all, it’s very odd when lightning strikes in the same place two to three times. Keep in mind they were noticing [Nowaah the Flood] on Mass Appeal. He was being featured on there a lot. They know about him because he has been around for a while."

*drops rating*

4 mics for me...

Songs like 'Bonjour' and 'White Label' still playing in my head randomly... Even though the album currently off my play list

Niggas still forget NAS a New Yorker who came up the boom bap days... And Kanye brilliantly channelled Salaam Remi production wise

Nigga still got God Body bars...

I give it a 3.5 but it doesn’t change my disappointment in this album (which I can’t really call it that in my mind). I’ll give a full review in a bit.

Bruh that Nas verse is over 15 years old,
It’s on the Lost Tapes album and the song is called “No ideas original”.

People that don’t know any better or are too lazy to do research will just go along with whatever’s posted, that’s kind’ve dangerous..

Meh album. 2.5

Only song that I listen to consistently off of here is Simple Things. I like the intro and Adam and Eve but don't have the urge to seek those songs out. If it comes on in a shuffle I'll let it rock but that about it.

Nasir- Nas

Six years between solo LP's can seem like a lifetime in hip-hop. Heads including myself were fiendin for a new Nas album so much that him dropping a song which confirmed that said project was infact done felt like Christmas Eve almost. Even tho it happened nearly two years before any new group of material would surface. Now that his album is out & feeling as qualified as I am as a Nas fan ever since the age of 9, I can safely say I'm dissapointed. Don't get me wrong this is a solid album. Nas still has his moments where he feels as ill as ever on the mic. This joint however just doesn't feel right. Where most of his material feels like a homecooked meal with all the right sides, grandmas suffing ya know the deal. Nasir feels like microwave Nas. What should of been a perfect storm of lyricism along with Kanye West's all emcompasing production (which has been great to below average the last few years depending on who you ask) has turned into a honestly underwelming project considering the talent invovled. 7 tracks was not enough for this ablum to have any real legs. Songs such as "White Label", "Not for Radio" & "Adam & Eve" feel like what you'd expect out of a great Nas album. "Cops Shot the Kid" has its appeal but the repetitiveness of the Slick Rick sample makes me loose internest. "Everything" & "Bonjor" are filler tracks IMO. That shouldn't happen with a 7 track LP. "Everything" especially has the pretencious side of Kanye all over it. Feeling more like a throwaway from one of his albums. "Simple Things" is fine for what it was but I wish Nas had more insight cuz it feels like an incomplete track. At the end of the day I guess I hold him to a high standard. I would like to think that Nas actually does have a full length LP waiting in the wings ready to go & he did this with Kanye kinda as his own version of a prelude EP. Nas album will be done, eventually.
