I think every tv has a backlight if I’m not mistaken. Without it it would be black and you wouldn’t see anything.
Maybe newer models have a different lighting system though.

Kind of glad I started driving with a vehicle with automatic windows.
Got to be awkward having manual windows in a road rage moment. By the time you aggressively roll down your window, you will be too tired to give them your full anger verbal lashing. Sometimes, you mess up on the roll and it briefly stops the momentum .
