2024/2025 NBA Season Thread

Sports fandom and to an extent the way we cover sports, has been dominated by haters over the last decade. Find any athlete that gets a lot of hate and the majority of the time it all boils down to money. People hate seeing people get paid. Especially niggas. People love players when they are on rookie deals or "Team Friendly" contracts. As soon as a player tries to get more for themselves people start hating. Talking heads start talking. Fans start turning on them.

Sports betting has only increased the hate. Now that sports betting is where it's at, people act as if they have a stake in the game. No you don't. Putting money on a parlay doesn't justify unreasonable hate for a player. As soon as people start talking about a players performance the first thing they do is bring up their contract. Nobody in any other profession on earth gets their pockets watched like athletes. Imagine if people had teh same energy in the workplace for money that they do for athletes. Maybe niggas wouldn't be hating as much.

Anyway, it's exhausting as fuck just being a fan these days because the way that we consume the game has been dumbed down to ignorant elementary levels with recycled talking points and then you have the muthafuckas that value data over everything that like to come in and talk about the sports from a better than thou point of view that make shit even worse. Fake as film gurus and savants that couldn't hit a baseball, gain a yard, or grab a rebound, creating platforms that do nothing but tear down athletes and they disguise it as other shit. No nigga you're being a hater. Twitter has literal troll accounts that do nothing but recycle corny shit about players to convince fans and people who watch to feel a certain way about athletes. They want you to forget that these niggas are human.

THEY ARE YOU AND ME!!!!

They weren't born as All Stars. They are the cream of the crop in their profession in all sports but that gets reduced to corny narratives largely because of hating ass muthafuckas.

I need more information. But this shit could def be predatory and these things usually almost always are.

Not gonna shit on Perk until details actually emerge, but if you look at the pattern of these types of things, it's hard to find an example of this type of business model that isn't predatory.

The business model btw is offering a young, most likely poor person, who is seeing themselves and their families up front money and taking a huge cut on the back end. When you got to worry about where your family's next meal is gonna come from, it's hard to make smart financial information.

Couple that with this being marketed to young kids who might not no better.

All the makings of a predatory business model.

I'll wait till Perk clears it up
