NBA just setting up connections in emirates for when the ban on foreign sovereign wealth funds buying teams is changed.

Last year they changed the rule to allow sovereign funds to own up to 20% of a team. And out of nowhere they called the mid season tournament the emirates cup.

China cool with a billion people but they don't have a sovereign funds with damn near a trillion dollars looking to invest in teams.
 
So yeah

They might be trying to slowly distance themselves temporarily. China might have been a good place to start expanding but they got a lot of political stuff that I think Silver doesn't think it's a good look long term.
