And yet still, despite a freshman season that has gone as well as nearly any other in the last decade of college basketball, it’s not uncommon to hear from NBA evaluators who think he is capable of more. “He’s more passive than I like from a top-three pick,” one assistant general manager whose team will not have a chance at securing Mobley on draft night told The Athletic. “He’s extraordinarily gifted. He’s a top-three pick because of those gifts. There’s just something there where I feel like he can take over every game at the college level, and he doesn’t.”
