We’ll seeI think Utah will keep him
Imo one of OG, Trent Jr or Van vleet gotta go between now and next seasons trade deadline.
OG is a great 3-d player you need on every team and currently on a great deal. Biggest issue with him is he always has little random injuries or random personal shit that takes him out for 15-20 games every season like clockwork at the most in opportune time.
Trent Jr is set to get a major increase on his next deal. He's the most replaceable of the three because of his age but his shooting, scoring off the dribble is needed and he took a big step defensively. He has the most upside out of the three. Going forward it's probably best for him to slide into a Tyler Herro type 6man role but can't imagine he wants to do that in a contract year.
Van Vleet took over Lowry's role as the teams spiritual leader. Alot of what he brings is hard to explain and even harder to replace. He's an elite defender and 3pt shooter. Problem is no matter what he gets at some point because of his age he will walk the line of being overpaid. Raptors have to decide if they believe his body will stand the test of time and stay in one piece the length of his next deal or even if they don't that the juice is worth the squeeze. We saw him breakdown this season under heavy reliance from nurse. We also saw the 6'8 and up line up low key flourish in his absence. That's no doubt the future of the league and it might be time to sell high on him and lean all the way into that.
Downsides and upsides to trading any of the three. Could end up keeping all three but barnes situation speaks for itself, Precious Achuiwa got his eyes on a piece of the pie down the line and I can't imagine masai just sitting back and letting one of the 3 walk in free agency. He's gonna run someone's pockets. Just a matter of who, what, and when. Should be interesting.
Would you swap OG for Ayton?
Straight up not taking salaries into account hell yes.
Ayton is looking for big money tho which would mean we're gonna dive into the luxury tax or another domino (Trent, fvv) would need to fall. Not sure the latter is worth it. I wouldn't hate it if it happened tho. I fux with ayton.
Luckily there’s a game tonight
