Nah BB does it all the time to quality players he respects; (off the top) Corey Dillion, Gronk, Brady, Ninkovich, Lawrence Guy last year.. He'll even give them their bonuses if they come lil bit short of reaching it.

Brady? Wasn't he notoriously underpaid? I mean he was cool with it, but when were they throwing him extra money?

Well the salary increase doesn't give the player to 'top of the market' value.
From about 5-6 years ago, Brady typically got yearly contract extensions that increased his pay via signing bonus and after the first year the signing bonus doesn't count as part of the yearly salary, so it looks cheaper than it actually is. Still underpaid relative to other QB's though.
Only until after the 28-3 Superbowl did BB start to give Brady, salary increase in hard-to-reach incentives.
