Hip hop started in the streets, and it's still there to this day. Whoever represents it in the mainstream is doing so under their rules. You're always gonna get that comment, because that's the nature of the culture. If something you heard on the radio made you think hip hop is dead, that's on you. My family helped build this culture... as long as my heart is beating hip hop will remain alive.
