Fragrance thread

This was the only Tom Ford i liked, lol. I was about to give up on their line. I honestly can't describe how this smells. It was unique to me.

Yeah man for the price they are WAAAAAAAY overpriced and overrated, crazy prices...

I didn't find much I liked from the hyped up stuff either... 'Oud Wood' was cool and also 'Soleil Blanc' was nice but abit too sun lotionay...

Apparently they werent so expensive before the hype though, now they are astronomical... Then again I think the discontinued stuff was alot better then newer releases so maybe we missed the prime lol

This was on one of my main websites I go to. I got it discounted for about $150.

After testing the vintage I was in love with Opium Pour Homme and sold immediately... Rich blackcurrant, vanilla and hints of pepper, it was so nice and couldnt wait to get my hands on it!!!

So I ordered the new version and ehhh, nowhere near as deep and fruity, nowhere near as vanillic and the dry down has hardly any pepper...

So disappointed, maybe it will grow on me as I wear it but Im gonna need to try get my hands on a vintage down the line, I really wanna try/buy the EDP too...

Good news I got for nearly half price with discount code...

Edit: damn that pic came out huge, I'll put it in a spoiler...

Maybe letting the new bottle sit for a few weeks will help. Sometimes vanilla fragrances need to macerate.

Yeah I was thinking this too... I checked the batch code and its only 5 months old...

After a few hours on my skin the vanilla notes did start to become much more noticeable which made me feel alot better about the purchase lol

Ii will say, the gris charnel is a great fragrance for if you about to be hugged up with your partner. Being on the sofa together or if you bout to get some cheeks.

It plays real close to the skin after maybe hour 2. It loses a lot of projection early on. One of the reasons I didn't want to pay that enormous price tag for a full bottle. But still a great scent so this will be for sexy time, lol

I'm trying to find a make yout own fragrance place near me. Help me find out what notes I really do and don't like.

Right now I have some notes that I don't necessarily dislike that much, but it also kinda makes my stomach turn. I think it may be patchouli, but i cold be wrong because I dunno what the patchouli smell is.

My recent samples...I've tried Kayali silk santal before and I wasn't wow'd by it, but people keep hyping it up so I got another sample to try again. YSL libre lastest flanker, libre is one my favorite perfumes and I haven't been disappointed by a flanker yet. Amouage guidance is another really hyped up fragrance I've been wanting to try. I did a spray on my hand and idk how I feel about it yet. It is a beast mode fragrance though one spray has filled up my whole room.

Patchouli is like a really warm, earthy scent... Patchouli itself is found in most of the classic fragrances, especially the masculines of the 80s and 90s but tons of great moderns too...

Its one of my favourite notes in perfume but the problem is alot of modern day perfumers, that either use patchouli or claim they use patchouli also often add 'akigalawood' which is man made from parts of the patchouli plant... So I always check what chemicals are used in a patch fragrance...

Alot of people (me included) dislike akigalawood as its a really overpowering synthetic woody note and also once the fragrance has worn off, aroma chemicals like akigalawood hang around on your skin or clothes for days...

It took me ages to figure what I really hated and ruined some good fragrances and left that synthetic smell on my skin and clothes which took me down the aroma chemicals rabbit hole... I thought I just disliked most ambers, which I dont, it was just some ambers that used synthetic amberwoods...

So it maybe that you actually like patchouli but dislike akigalawood or some of the amberwood aroma chemicals that find their way into fragrances these days...

Im so wary now, that before I buy a fragrances, I check all the ingredients, then spray it on a t-shirt and leave it over night to see if leaves that dry, scratchy amberwood smell once the fragrance has worn off...

Its a tough balance to use aroma chemicals, I find them ok when used sparingly but not when they leave that afterburn on your skin and clothes...

Here are some fragrances that use akigalawood...
