Welcome To aBlackWeb

Do You Only Consider Black People Born In The States Black?

But everything I listed wasn’t traumatic and just a quick brain fart of examples

I mean you kinda proved my point by saying you haven’t experienced those things.

Doesn’t make you not black just not black in the way American black ppl view blackness.
Fam most of the shit you listed was ignorant or traumatic outside of the family reunion and fish frys lol. I'm not even about to entertain an argument about this.

As for the bolded WHO CARES??? Everywhere black people are on earth racism and systematic oppression is felt.

Conversation needs to start there. This is trivial shit.

There was nothing traumatic about the electric slide, watching Martin, or knowing the theme to good times

But it would be dishonest to not include the negative too

Every race or culture has their brand of negativity.

It’s not like those things that I listed are the only things that are traits of blackness in America

Would’ve had to write a novel to somehow compile every aspect of black American culture

Again for people like ttbf bringing up a negative of our culture that is real not glorifying it. I’d prefer loch not mention the nigga shit.

But I also know nigga shit happens in other countries. Telling somebody reality does not mean we condone it but you can’t deny reality. And no most of us didn’t grow up around drive bys.

I didn’t even define those things as nigga shit but somebody could call it that.

It’s just human shit done in the way we do shit.

It’s like whatever we do is 20xs worse than when other ppl do the same shit.

But along with all that negative shit you got graduations, marriages,Teachers,Presidents,Business ownership, lawyers, activists, Doctors , artists etc

No I don't consider black people born in the United States to be the only black people.

I was quite shocked to learn some black americans thought that.

I was also shocked to learn some Americans didn't know slavery existed outside of their country.

A lot of misinformation, miseducation, and misleading going on throughout the diaspora. I would think the fact that we all look like each other just with different backgrounds would help us get over some of the humps but apparently not in some cases.

But hey we still got time to learn

How do you not know that slavery existed outside of America? Unless you know nothing at all about anything outside of America.

This is especially annoying considering that the vast majority of Africans were taken elsewhere in the Americas (Brazil, etc.).

Black people that descend from slaves are "African Americans"

Somebody that emigrated from Nigeria 20 years ago is a "Nigerian American" because he can actually trace his ancestry to Nigeria.

(Most) Black descendants of slaves can't trace our lineage back to Africa.

All these labels become senseless. Especially when you consider that most people are mixed with something.

The only people that aren't mixed is immigrants that came off the boat. They can pass for "Black" but they're not really "African Americans" IMO.

No. I am descended from slaves (in the small islands of the West Indies), but I'm not American, so I can't be African American.

Due to slavery I cannot trace my family linage past Jamaica. Black people are not indigenous to Jamaica (that would be the Arawak Indians). I've always been Black and my parents never differentiated between being Jamaican and being Black. They always taught me that I was Black first and them white folks would always look at you as such.

Yeah it the confusion among some that Black folks born outside of or who come from immigrant families still have a very much Black experience is always amazing to witness. My dad always told me "Our ancestors just got dropped at a different port"

I can only imagine the confusion she would feel walking into a Nairobi supermarket or restaurant that says No Blacks Allowed outside. She wouldn’t know what they mean, I guess.

But alas, Black women that date White men are often a confused lot…That say what they know White people like to hear.

Kenya’s founding father was a staunch Pan-African Black nationalist that gained that state independence after the black Mau Mau movement which killed thousands.

See why chicks from Mexico that suck marshmallows aren’t the best mouthpiece for Black identity?
