i dont think he scared of AEW competition wise but the fact that his talent are starting to speak out about being unhappy/request releases is whats gonna bring about change. Dude pretty big outside of WWE believe it or not, they'll keep him around just for that positive image he has outside of the company. Winning father of the year back to back and some other awards. He always winning some shit thats non WWE related and they'll bring it up. I could see them transitioning into another role before they release him

Like 2 weeks ago on NXT Kassius Ohno cut a promo basically saying he was quitting cause hes underappreciated then Keith Lee came out and leveled him. So it could be there way of writing him out of shit
