@konceptjones, what's a decent soundbar setup I can get. Preferably with a sub. Not trying to spend over $125

I'm on Amazon, what should I be looking for? And I prefer wireless.

All sound bars sound like ass. I mean... if you just want some shit that makes noise go for one, but by virtue of their size they can't sound all that great.

Now... This applies if you need said soundbar to reproduce music as well as TV programming. If that's the case, you're better off going for a pair of halfway decent bookshelf speakers, a center channel, some stands, and a sub.

But...

If all you want it for is to sound better than the internal speakers on the TV while watching your shows then by all means a soundbar will be an upgrade over whatever basura was slapped in your TV. Just do your ears a favor: Don't use them things for music.

Don't just take my word for it tho:

"... As a group, you are in the driver's seat of the audio hardware market. And as a group, you are driving our car off the cliff. The problem is your insatiable love of soundbars.

When soundbars first appeared, I figured they were the perfect way to provide center-channel playback in a 5.1 system. Now, it appears that soundbars (aka wireless speakers) are becoming the de facto, general-purpose audio playback device. Soundbar sales keep increasing, while sales of other playback means decrease. And let's be clear about who is responsible for this: You are.

According to the NPD Group's, Soundbar Ownership and Usage Study, a year ago, Millennials bought 35% of all audio hardware; now they account for 44%. At the same time, sales of soundbars costing less than $200 saw double-digit growth, while sales of soundbars costing more than $500 fell 34%. Not only are you buying soundbars, you are buying junk soundbars...
"

I've been running a soundbar on my center monitor on my work PC setup. For audio during meetings, watching videos, the occasional game, and shit like that it's better than the built-in speakers most def. But, I listen to music while I work from the time I unlock my PC at 8am until I stop for the day around 6pm and it all sounds like utter ASS on this thing. I'd do a million times better with my 24 year old Bose Roommate II's than this fuckin thing, but I don't have the wall mounts for them anymore and I don't have desk space for 'em anymore 'cause I'm running three monitors now. Shit, I'd prolly do better with the trash ass Dell desktop speakers on my wife's machine over this soundbar.

Also, if what you're looking for is wireless, and especially bluetooth, don't do it particularly if you listen to streaming services, mp3's, or any other audio that's compressed before it hits the bluetooth radio.

Man fuck all that, my visio soundbar and subwoofer get shit done lol

and does it sounding like ass.

I mean, I have my 24 year old Bose Roommates sitting on top of my dresser running off of my netbook for music with a 10" Polk subwoofer connected to it all. Guaranteed it sound lightyears better than that soundbar/sub combo.

You coulda copped a pair of them speakers on Ebay for $60-$80 and got any old 10" powered sub for cheap and would be sounding better than you currently do... And Bose sounds like trash to me (and a lot of other people but that's besides the point).

@konceptjones, im putting this on mantle above my fireplace, so my space is kinda limited

im all about options tbh

im not above finding an alternative so please my brotha, if you got anything other recommendations, keep them coming

this is definitely not my wheel house...im not married to the soundbar. It was just the first thing, as far as space is concerned that came to mind

but this will primarily be used for watching tv and movies. Again, wireless is preferred b/c im not trying to have a bunch of cords that i have to hide

not sure whats up with amazon links not posting

@konceptjones...you gon leave a brotha hanging fam?

Nah, just forgot.

At that price point there honestly isn't going to be much of a difference between soundbars: for around $200 you could be able to cop any of them, especially if it's just for TV audio, and they should sound reasonably similar to one another.

My fault, I was looking for you to recommend some bookcase speakers. Do I need a sub with that?

Any bookshelf speakers that I would recommend wouldn't be wireless or self-powered. You'd need an amp to run 'em.

I've always ran Sony receivers. Not that I think they're better than anything else, 'cause I'd really like a Marantz or Denon receiver in the crib, but that's just what I always seem to end up with.

Just my two cents though: Never buy speakers without first hearing them. These days places where you can actually audition speakers aren't exactly plentiful, but if you have a decent A/V store in your area I'd recommend taking some time out of your day to go there to listen to speakers if you can.

Remodeling my kitchen. It's a little outdated going to put granite countertops and back splash. Going to put hardwoods down in a room downstairs, repaint the down and up stairs change out the faucets in the bathrooms and re-carpet upstairs. That entire project is estimated at $5725

Edit: getting a new roof in a few weeks....$11k

Whole bathroom is getting re-tiled so all the old stuff is getting taken up...

it will be out of order and wont be finished for a few days so I gotta go over to my pops crib for bathroom necessities
