We talked about this study a while back. The conclusion they made is flawed. First, the mummies ranged back to 1400 BC. The dynastic period in Egypt began in 3100 BC. By the time of these mummies, Egypt had already been invaded several times. Also, if I'm not mistaken most of the mummies they sampled came from much later. Also, the samples were representative of the royalty at the time since those were the people that were mummified.
Let's put this into perspective. It would be like sampling Obama's DNA and concluding that the average American came from Africa or even more accurately sampling the DNA of U.S. government officials from 1780 to 2018 and concluding that Native Americans were of European ancestry.
Yep, and basically that the Egyptians were able to create anatomically perfect representations of themselves (like tuts mask), but were unable to choose the right pigmentation lol.
They depicted themselves primarily as dark skinned with afros and braids the vast majority of the time, but in all the anatomic representations that are rendered these days they were deathly pale lol.
