Video Jay-Z Breaks His Silence—“We Played Enough Defense, 2026 is All Offense”

The original DJ would only play the breaks in the songs and ppl would dance to the breaks so they started calling it breakdancing

Hip hop changes.

That’s what makes it great

90s wasn’t anything the 80s
2000s wasn’t anything like the 90s
Etc….

Was an Olympic sport and graffiti isn't associated with the genre at all

I started to say WAS on the olympics bit too 🤣

Point remains is that all of the elements are global and still active in some shape or form. Nowhere near as popular as Rap of course, but all of this stuff we're talking about is rooted in and at the foundation of hip hop culture and still very much alive

This my major problem with him and others like him in Rap. They're the OG's now and the richest ones ever and they dont do shit but complain and or exploit the same culture they claim to love so much.

Most of them really only value the dollar, and this mentality gets passed on, then yall turn around and complain YN's dont respect the art form or Og's in the game. Well why should they when most the OG's only respect shit that benefits them, even if they already have everything.

Then you see other cultures keeping this supposed dead pointless art alive and excelling, but people over here will almost happily watch it decline and die off without moving a muscle.

Dude starting to move like private equity firms. Get their money out of something and just leave a wave of destruction in its wake.

Word, him and his wife are just a powerless super famous billionaires. Wtf can they do to help breathe life into break dancing, graffiti or djing. /s

If you’re saying what I think you are, Nas does more for hip hop on a ground level than Jay

Him partnering for a casino is cool because he does a lot else

For the record I disagree with a portion of Jay comments on being a billionaire but i do think he gets some unwarranted flack that doesn't add up to the good stories people have about him helping them out..I just think it's funny how folks zero in on his hypocrisy while praising Nas for his when their end goals are basically the same. The casino being the biggest one. Nas' Hennessy conversion is another one

That’s cool

I’m just saying Jay could do more ground level things to enhance hiphop

I’m not even faulting for him for the casino I’m just saying that’s more his speed than what Nas did last year musically and culturally

People help where they feel they can make the most impact. Maybe his wouldn't be felt the way he wants on the ground level.

The fact that breakdancing is an olympic sport(lol) and graffiti is worldwide shows that those elements moved outside of NYC as well so....

My whole point is things change and it will not return to its former glory. These things happen for different reasons. Maybe dead is the wrong word. But it definitely died off a lot. It is now a niche thing. Even in china.

Sometimes foundations are changed or things are added on. Similar to moving a house to another location. Or moving in to a whole new building. Hip hop of the 60's is not the same as now. Fashion is a mew pilar in my opinion.

Break dancing pillar evolved to include all types of dances. You look at a break dance competition, you will find they include other dances mixed in their performances.

Say you had a newspaper company since the 60's. One of the foundations was the newspaper. You made great money up until 2000's. You start to see a decline. Each year gets worse. Do you keep pumping all the money into newspaper or do you shift a lot of tha money to the internet and television?

If yall dont knock it df off. He doesnt help cuz he doesnt fucking care. He even pretty much said it in the interview. Stop trying to make it some crazy deep mysterious reason.

Lol I wouldn't say he doesn't care. I think he has the misguided view that his personal accomplishments are also wins for everyone. And thats just not reality. I had the same issue when Timbaland and Swizz was talking about selling Verzuz as some "win for the culture". Nah it's a win for their pockets but they're also older and came up in a time where the concept of "representation and a seat at the table" was seen as the ultimate accomplishment. People now see that's bullshit and it doesn't actually reflect anything tangible. So I can understand it even if I think it's a false perception.
