I wanna say Juelz. He released his debut off the momentum of the Cam feature and diplomatic immunity and his debut did really well. Then after that somewhere along the lines he just had failures. I cant feel my face never dropping, i feel like his followup album was delayed a bunch then when it did drop it was a dud. Then dude just disappeared for years.
 
Could argue Joe as well. Pump it up was impossible not to hear. Second single didnt do shit then label politics and being a pain in the ass really fucked him over. Mixtapes were dope and he got respected eventually but never reached that level that he started out at with pump it up. I think for the most part hes had a successful career though when he went Indie.
 
When pump it up dropped, i thought joe was going to be right up there with fifty cent. Making a smash single is the hardest part and he did that out the gate, and i knew he could rap and had clue/fab behind him, pause, a major label, and nyc radio

I thought it was a no brainer

Joe was a victim of a shift in the culture.

Def Jam messed up by putting it on a movie soundtrack before Budden’s album dropped.
 
Joe Budden was the most well rounded rapper on that list. Dude could make the smash hit single, introspective joints and be extremely lyrical. However, no one up there got the alley-up that Juelz Santana got. Dude got featured on two hit records out the gate. Dude had the ladies and the streets waiting on him. He had all the makings of the next superstar rapper far as marketability and had the Dip set movement behind him.
 
Juelz had everything working for him. I think him being salty about the deal Cam made hurt him. And Cam made it clear it wasn't "selling" Juelz like he was a slave or some shit... He was securing him on an independent label where he could benefit from the big machine while not having to pay as much into it...I could be wrong... But I think that's where the disconnect

And with Joe, I remember hearing Joe say in an interview he regrets not wanting to do the smaller shows... Basically the chitlin circuit. The ones where you really build and establish your core fan base.. But because he had early success
.. He only wanted to do the big shows and skip over the smaller performances... Only realizing too late, that's the way you have to do it to really maintain the buzz
 
Julez has he had a whole crew, label and movement behind him...

Though few other kinda fumbled too:

Saigon had unlucky timing as the South/Soundcloud rappers were popping, he could make tough singles too but also didnt know where to be street of kick knowledge...

Cassidy had bars and singles with Kelz but couldnt quite take off for somereason...

Joe was similar to Saigon in that hip hop wanted catchy singles and he wanted to get bars...

Shyne's whole thing was 'sounding like Biggie' which is never a good long term plan, as the novelty soon wears off...

Shyne might be one of the biggest “what ifs” in hip hop history if you think about it. Despite the whole biggie comparison, he still pulled it off by leaning into his Caribbean roots for his singles.
