Spinoff: Did The South Kill HipHop?

Yung joc
Soulja boy
Gorilla zoe
Trillville
Lil scrappy
Dem franchise boyz
Crime mob
D4L
Jibbs
Chingy
Rich boy
Hurricane chris
Plies

Just helping him out

There's a lot going on in that list. Soulja Boy was basically a one hit wonder and his fame comes more for him basically starting the ringtone rap era moreso than his music itself. DFB and D4L made club music almost exclusively.

Gorilla Zoe's style might not be for everybody, but he made legit music.

If there's a point to be made, it's being lost here.

Joe Budden, Saigon, Papoose, Skyzoo,

The problem is that why should they rely on music executive to push their career? It might cost more but it may be worth the award

Boosie and Webbie were independently on the grind in the chitlin circuit before anything.

Yo, remember cats losing their minds over this shyt. Things changed, I think that stuff rose from labels pushing it, but also people liked it. Them dudes didnt kill hip hop. Shyt like that was being said 20 years ago and the music still rolling along

You’re making a completely different point.

what "suits" were pushing Boosie & Webbie?

Trill Ent? lol

You acting like Lyor or whoever was behind it pushing them double platinum

them boys made a wave & dropped records that had the streets on lock
They got no push yet their records were being played in NYC. Make it make sense.

It was more the radio only playing finger snap/MySpace rappers, who happened to mostly be from the south or rapping like they were from the south and also producers making those beats...

There was still tons of dope hip hip around (including dope southern artists btw), its just not what was pushed commercially... The labels were paying the main radio stations to exclusively play trash music...

Sh!t even 50 rapped with a twang and bought Buck into G Unit...

Virginia is literally the south. Maryland is below the mason Dixon line. Geographically it is the south. Culturally it is in more ways than people realize. The phrase "DMV" will always suck

Man get that mason Dixon slavery shit outta here. There's nothing southern about DC.

Look at this shit, this is the south?

"Man get that factual information out of here"

Sure. That's a great argument

The origins of the mason dixon line has nothing to do with dividing the north from the south, that's why it's so high on the map.

Fuck it, The Wire is a great southern show.

But it is the dividing line. Hence why I said geographically. Of course it's not like the deep into VA, the Carolinas, GA, Texas etc...but the vast majority of Black folks born and raised in DC and southern MD are 1 or 2 generations removed from the deep south. And there's plenty evidence of it here
