What Requirements Should People Need To Purchase A Gun?

Also, regarding mental health concerns. Let's not let the shootings that are big news stories get mistaken for the ones that are the biggest issues. I don't think most shootings are a result of depression (I don't count suicides). Just like most victims aren't shot by AR-15 style weapons.

Need to be 21 but if you 18-20 you need 3 adult cosigners who are also legal gun owners that will vouch for you and if you fuck up, they lose their right to legal gun ownership for a period of some years (depending on what you did - whether that's not completing training or committing a crime with your gun)

Mandatory training and safety hours you need to put in prior to receiving the gun of your choice. Need to be renewed every 3-5 yrs.

Background and health and wellness eval. If you have a violent history or a substance abuse issue you cant own a gun.

"substance abuse" would need to be clearly defined. Right now weed heads are not legally allowed to purchase a gun from a licensed dealer because weed is still illegal at the federal level and its the feds that approve or deny your ability to buy a gun. Weed heads lie on that part of the form so they can buy, but if something happens, you end up like this woman:

She got a deal, 'cause it's supposed to be 10 years of fed time, but being a weed head, even casually, can get you fed time for lying on the 4473.

I don't know about anywhere else, but out here to get a concealed pistol license, you need to go through a training class with also includes range time and it has to be renewed with a refresher course and range time every 5 years. That could be extended to include long guns just on GP, but the hunting community out here would push back very hard against it. You already have to renew your hunting license every year and folks bitch and moan about that.

My city keeps catching strays... no pun intended

I like this although the part that would be tricky is the 3 legal gun owners as co-signers

lol like if this was me I wouldn’t know 3 that would be a cosigner that’s a high number because these would have to be close people and on the east coast finding 3 ppl who own guns AND would be really close to you would be tough

BUT the alternative really would be is since you said 18-20, if it wouldn’t be possible then just wait until you’re 21 so really no biggie

I was thinking both parents and a teacher, manager, coach etc. I figure that would be easier to get when you're younger

Yeah but both parent and teacher, manager, or coach all have to own guns

Outside of open carry states that seems not that doable lol know what I mean?

But it’s fine make those little shits wait

Id have it tied to the mental wellness eval. Alcohol and hard drugs + the violent aspect. Weed (amond other drugs) doesnt have a history of violence attached to it. If you complete a treatment program you can have your right to your gun(s) back.

Maybe I'm missing something. But why is she being charged with lying on a federal gun application? Is there some sort of footage of her abusing marijuanae 3 years ago when she filled out the application? There was no mention of it in the article.

Question 11e asks "are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance?"

Doesn't matter, it's currently an illegal drug federally, so weed heads can't legally buy a gun.

That part

Doesn’t help either if you have a medical marijuana card either. This stopped a few of my friends from purchasing firearms since they didn’t wanna give up that card but they just get then gifted from family members etc just won’t be in their name.

They found about an O in her bedroom during the investigation into how her son was able to get to the gun.

Are we looking at solutions before identifying the problem though? Like what percentage of gun violence is committed by identified addicts, currently on their drug of choice, using a legally obtained firearm?

How many are from 18-20 year olds that legally obtained their firearm?

As far as training/safety courses, how much gun violence is from a lack of firearm knowledge?

Ok. But what’s the got to do with her application from years earlier?

Maybe I’m tripping.

EDIT: I guess I get it. I thought this was recent. This is from 2 years ago. Less than a year between when she applied and the incident. Understood.

The State of Michigan got in trouble with the Feds 'cause they were issuing CPL's to people with medical weed cards.

I didnt say if you use drugs I said if they have substance abuse issue. And if that substance has ties to violence or criminal activity in your history. If you was high off weed and beat a nigga within an inch of their life then yea you shouldnt be legally allowed to own a gun. If you a weed head yet you hold down a full time job with no violations and carry on a normal, law abiding life, you good under my purview.

Doesn't matter if you're an upstanding citizen or not: You a weed head? You can't have a gun, full stop.

Says who? Wasn't what I said
