Why is supporting black owned businesses so difficult sometimes?

there's this brunch spots that sits you in time slots...

like you have to register in advance.....you can be in the 11am group, but you gotta be done and out the door before the 1pm group comes in...

and you gotta wait in line until the 9am group leaves....
and that's for the entire restaurant, the parking lot is a mess, they did a piss poor job at bussinf=g the tables and cleaning the floor rom the 9am group....it feels like the club...and they were serving summer ale as the seasonal sam adams in the middle of February when there was literally snow outside.

lotta people like it, but i hated it... it took so long for my drinks, i just ordered my next drink as soon as they dropped one off, cuz i knew by the time they bring it out, i'll already be finished this one for some time....

that's horrible service... AND the gratuity is included at 20%

i went to their page, and they were hiring for every position, which tells me working there must be a nightmare as well..

they get tons of support from the black community, so hopefully they'll be okay.. but i can't fuck with them.. i spent over $200 and i was irritated the entire time...
ive had better brunches for under $100

Brunch is wildly overrated. I don't understand the current trend of going out for brunch and spending a grip like the shit is special. Folk outchea really spending a C note on toasted bread corners with avocado smashed on it topped with one egg and a mimosa.

For me its service I don’t have to spend money with you because I’m black and your a black owned business it don’t work like.

My biggest irks
-rude customer service
-if I walk in and gotta wait a unreasonable amount of time for someone to come up to front to assist me.. I don’t mind a few minutes and usually gives me enough time to look at menu but nah a unreasonable amount of time ill leave and go elsewhere.
-cell phones… guess Im the asshole for wanting you to not be texting or on the phone with your cousin while your dealing with paying customers. If I walk into a place have the decent courtesy to put the cell phone down.. I get it work or business gets slow and you wanna pass the time be mindful when a potential customer walks in
- prices.. I get some have to charge more and ill pay a bit but when you trying to have my cover your overhead nope.
- if you work in the back and talking to a coworker if its not work related put that convo on pause while you got customer up front waiting. Especially dealing with open kitchens.

Ill go to Chickfila or Publix and be treated like a King if they keep that shit up 😂

Literally left this Arabic spot the other day for the bolded. Walked in 'cause I wanted a chicken shawarma and a falafel sandwich, stood at the counter for 5 minutes and nobody came up front. I could hear 'em in the back talking so it's not like nobody was there or they were out back taking out the trash or something. Plus, there were customers already in there eating. I just walked my ass on up outta there.

That’s the reason most spots put a bell on the door or one on the counter. I get it most aren’t just gonna be chilling at the counter if a customer isn’t there ordering and doing other productive things hopefully but Im not finna talk loud to get your attention nah Ill just leave and go elsewhere.

I'm pretty sure I could apply for that one brunch spot, get the job and try my best to manage the front of house better....

But I know I wouldn't last long. My experiences and attention to customer service prolly goes against their business model.

They tryna make as much money as fast as possible.. The Overall customer experience is an after thought

Sounds like folks eat there just to say they've been there.

Heard something the other day that I didn't realize until I heard it but it seems an overwhelming amount of black owned business try to run their shit like the dope game

-Trying to always flip the flip
-Treating customers like fiends who will come to you no matter how you treat them
-everything is fast paced, no attention to detail or care for the customer
- always trying to upcharge on shit and think people just supposed to be ok with it just cause it's "black owned"

Sounds pretty accurate.

This just came across my timeline. I have an old friend that is a business owner that has echoed this sentiment to me. She's tried supporting Black hair and nail salons in the past and no matter what she's always had a bad experience with them. I picked her up from a hair appt way back inna day and when she got to the car she was in tears 'cause they fucked her hair up royally. More recently we've talked while she was on her way to get her nails done and I kinda jokinly asked if she was going to a Black nail salon and she was like "fuck no!!!". She then explained how every time she went to a Black nail salon there was always a problem, they overcharged, and were horribly unprofessional (one visit a tech and a customer got into a physical fight). She takes her business to the Asians or Chaldeans for nails and feet and whites for her hair now.

Do you ever get tired of trying to support SOME black businesses?

I like to support black businesses when I see them doing their thing. But I feel like that too often comes with tolerating some bullshit. Like I wanted to get me and the wife lunch today at like 1:30, from this black owned place that opens at 1:00. Then I see they decided not to open until 3:00 today. I also tried to get them for dinner last night around 6:30 (they close at 8:00). I rolled up, didn't see anyone. Called... no answer. They had closed at like 6:00...2 hours early.

Now, I just wanna be like fuck them then. Y'all ever notice this as being a common problem?

Was this in Newport News?
