Official Wrestling News Thread

While her match last night against Nia Jax implied, by virtue of its stipulation that Jax would be added to the Raw Women's championship match at Wrestlemania, that Asuka would be challenging for the Raw Women's championship, that may not necessarily be the case.

WWE's official preview for tonight's Raw notes:

...However, The Empress of Tomorrow opted to hold off until after WWE Elimination Chamber to choose whether she would face the SmackDown or Raw Women’s Champion at The Showcase of the Immortals. Enter Five Feet of Fury.

Last night, Raw Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss survived the menacing structure and now seems more confident than ever. Will Auska finally choose to battle The Goddess of WWE, a Superstar she has already defeated? Or will she wait until SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte faces Ruby Riot at WWE Fastlane to make her final decision? The clock is ticking, and it is still not clear if anyone is ready for Asuka.

So, that aspect of the storyline, which had appeared to have been dropped after Kurt Angle, in announcing Jax vs. Asuka, implied Asuka was facing the Raw Women's champion at Wrestlemania, apparently is still in play.

Here is the current rumored card for Wrestlemania 34:

I was planning on not watching Wrestlemania this year. I canceled my network subscription. I was done. I was finished with this shit.... and then they tease me with Cena vs Taker. Fuck you WWE. Guess I’ll be watching.

Fuck that, Cena vs Taker is 8 years past the expiration date. I honestly don't want to see either person on the card.

Yea.. I’m not expecting a classic if it happens. I’m just too big a damn geek to not watch Taker FINALLY have his “last match”.

yikes..

Cena ain’t lying..

Apparently he was also vouching hard for Rollins to win the Chamber or for Braun to just destroy everyone and win. He was shot down.

Sounds like he’s pitching Taker and they’re not taking that either.

So Rey?

If so, the only outcome I’ll accept is a Cena loss.

A number of FOX Sports executives, including FOX Sports President Eric Shanks, FOX Sports Producer Jacobs Ullman and even broadcast personality Colin Cowherd, who has always knocked professional wrestling fans (but also admits he grew up watching Don Owens' Pacific Northwest promotion) were all at last night's Smackdown Live taping at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Obviously, as WWE continues to map out future plans and work on securing its next major partnership with a broadcaster, FOX has been speculated as one of those in the race for WWE's rights.

FOX is still attempting to negotiate a new deal with UFC, but should the MMA company move on, FOX will be in a position to need a replacement franchise, as UFC makes up a good portion of its programming on FOX Sports 1. Obviously, WWE would certainly fill the loss of the MMA flagship if it comes to that.

It should also be noted that UFC owner IMG-WME also represents WWE, so it's not out of the question that they could offer a package deal for both entities to FOX or another broadcaster. There is a great history of the two genres pairing up well from their time on SpikeTV.

FOX Sports did air TNA's Impact Wrestling series when it was initially a one hour broadcast in the early 2000s, but that was believed to have been a "pay for play" deal at the time. Obviously, any relationship between WWE and FOX would be a far more lucrative and top-flight deal, especially as the FOX is poised to sell much of its television and film assets to Disney. That move that will leave FOX flush with lots of money to potentially spend on sports properties, something it has been said FOX has been eyeing greatly forward.

Stay tuned.

Fox is reportedly offering WWE the chance to air Monday Night Raw on broadcast television if Fox and WWE come to terms on a TV rights deal.

According to Michael McCarthy of Sporting News, Raw would air on Fox, with SmackDown Live going to FS1 as part of Fox's offer.

WWE's long-running contract with USA Network will officially end on Sept. 30, 2019. WWE spokeswoman Annie Kruger told McCarthy that WWE plans to announce its television plans between May and this September.

This is gonna happen. I don’t think the show would get edgier. Especially considering the time slot. Then again who knows. I honestly think if this happens, and since they’re gonna have both brands on “PPV”, they need to scrap the Universal belt and focus on one champ.

FS1 doesn’t have the exposure as USA & Smackdown will suffer a bit. WWE already puts all their eggs in the Raw basket and will do it even more so once it’s on network TV. To keep Smackdown relevant I honestly think they should do this. What has having two champions really done except devalue both belts?

So, if he does go to UFC, he’s def dropping WM. But I think Braun is somehow going to get in for a triple threat. I think he walks out winner.

Brock goes to UFC.

Lashley takes his spot.
