I like the side episodes. You can tell Donald is trying to use his platform to address black issues.

There’s been full threads on here about white people adopting black kids and they offered a POV on that topic.

We’ve also discussed reparations on here ad nauseam and they offer a POV on that.

I guess I don’t care as much about the main characters’ journey. I like it, but not so much as to not also like the side episodes. I think the messages in the side episodes are more interesting than their hijinks.

Good thing is, I’m sure they’ll do a complete anthology show after this one ends so for the ppl that like that that could be huge

I guess my thought is where are these characters even going? There’s no overarching theme or plot now. The first few seasons were about Paperboi trying to get on and Ern’s difficulties and the crew’s response to all they had going on. Now it’s just random hijinks in Europe.

I think Donald recognized that there’s not much more to explore with these characters so why not highlight some of the black social issues. Better than just forcing something and people talk about how much it fell off like we do with every other show that runs out of ideas (*cough* *cough* Snowfall *cough*).

Huh? There’s so much more to tackle focusing on the four characters
Hell they could spend an entire season on the music industry alone

I just hope they get it in while they can. The actors are all right on the cusp of A list type rolls. And the show definitely will spark some uncomfortable conversations when people try to break down the episodes.

The show prolly never was going to be 5+ seasons. So they a short amount of time to do everything they got cooking in their heads. So it's good for them to do it the way they are

I’ve never considered suing descendants of slave owners and getting a % of their pay as reparations. Others may have but I haven’t.

And it makes perfect sense actually. Blacks have to deal with the negative generational effects of slavery, whites benefit from the generational effects of slavery. To balance that ledger, it only makes sense we get a cut of the gains from their profits. It’s almost like reverse slavery without all of the atrocities.

The first episode just shows how much of the black culture and experience a child misses out on when raised by a white family. And how a white family’s underlying racism can impact how they raise these children, consciously or not. Some white people may look at it as they are saving the child so anything they provide is better than the alternative, instead of giving them everything they need and want. The craziness of the episode was for entertainment purposes and so people wouldn’t call it boring.

Personally I’m not against the practice because it’s better to be with a loving family than in the system, but there are drawbacks to such an upbringing for black children.
